Head hen had trouble passing an egg/now acting off!

Am I giving the correct dose of amoxicillin? She is approximately 8lbs & I am giving her one 500mg pill per day.
You have weighed her and she's 8lbs?

8 x 57mg = 456mg. Twice a day.
I would round up to the 500mg twice a day for ease of administering the medications since you have 500mg caps. Just pop the capsule into her beak and let her swallow.

Amoxicillin at a dose of 57mg per pound of weight, orally twice a day for 10-14 days.

Please help me i never had a chicken go thru egg binding im scared. Ive soaked her gave her calcium antibiotics etc
On your other thread, you were given good advice by coach723. She looks to be molting now, and may not be laying. I would try giving the NutriDrench orally for a few days, and try to get her to eat some moistened chicken feed, scrambled egg, or tuna for protein. Does her lower belly feel enlarged or tight?

does molting make them weak like that? it happened so suddenly around sunset. i found her on the bottom in the cage off her roost. paralyzed. does molting make swollen bottoms? im still learning this is my first farm

Update: Rosie (our head hen) finally laid another egg. It’s TINY compared to her previous XXL eggs and compared to the medium-large eggs of my other hens. 😆 My kids got a fun kick out of it but should I be worried or is this normal since she had issues & has just started laying again?

Yes I’ve wondered it that is why she has issues. Her eggs are very large compared to the other eggs. They make the other eggs look small when they are not! For comparison her eggs are as big as a duck egg.

Good to hear that she is back laying eggs. Hopefully the XL eggs won’t give her problems. Good luck with Rosie.
Her eggs are always huge in comparison to her flock!

Rosie is acting off again…she laid fine about 3 days ago which is normal for her. We typically get about 2-3 eggs a week from her. But today instead of foraging with the other hens she chose to roost inside the henhouse. Once a hen has reproductive issues this may be a common occurrence correct? Is there anything I should or can do to help her with this before she goes downhill? @Wyorp Rock
