Hello N. Carolina!!!

Downtown Raleigh here - "Henside" the beltline.

I have six Dominique chicks, about seven weeks old. They just started spending the night off my deck and in their coop and I'm nervous as can be as I lost three Rhode Island Reds last year to beheadings by a 'coon or 'possum. They are now in a firmly secured (I hope) house in a firmly secured (I hope) run.

Hiya Wolfpacker!

I grew up inside the beltline and I am tickled to death to hear of people raising chickens there.

We live a little north of Raleigh now, but I still work down there. We are Wolfpack fans, too.

Good luck with the chicks!

I actually re-discovered this website because I saw a bumper sticker on the back of a neighbor's Jeep with the web address. Then I peeked in the backyard and saw a chicken coop. I've never met this neighbor but will soon.

Each year, there is a tour of chicken coops in and around downtown Raleigh called the "Henside the Beltline" tour. I've been out of town both years they've had it, so I missed it. Most people are amazed Raleigh will allow chickens, so until someone spoils it for the rest of us, we have a good thing going here!

I get the ag review but just don't see anything too close. Not much for decent feed stores over here, TSC doesn't count. I'll check around some more.

This is the current coop under construction. >> http://www.neuseworks.net/files/coop.html. I'm changing the floor out to a solid one but I'm still not sure that this will be the one I use. I built the dog a real nice house that she refuses to use so it may get converted and this one sold.

I actually ordered from mypetchicken.com and they let you order as few as three and are very nice. THere is a great place to buy feed off of Old Wake Forest Rd, between Atlantic and Capital Blvd. Its a horse place, but they have feed and bedding for all kinds of animals. Sometimes you have to ask because they store it in the back. But they also will order chicks for you in the springtime. They have a number of chicken customers and are very friendly and helpful. Its called ths (Triangle Horse Sports) on Barrow dr.

Oh, I forgot to say: We're in Raleigh and have three Dominiques (or are they barred rocks, stay tuned for more when their combs finish growing in!)
and two Ameraucanas, one of hich decided today that she was a he and so will be moving to a nice new home on a farm in the country. (Thank God for Craig's list!)
