Hi Everyone,

I need help with gender identification, please! I have someone who is coming to get my 7 week old welsummer rooster, she rescues roosters and let's them free range on her acreage. So I was hoping to be able to identify other roosters as I can't keep all of them.

Cuckoo Maran (Pink Band): Estimated 6 weeks as of Yesterday 6/12/2024 _ Rural King _ Was in Pullet Bin (Not positive on this one, The Marans have me stumped)

I agree with Abby... I think they are all pullets.

I will admit that second blurry pic of orange band had me staring at it. Slightly bigger comb and blurry pic makes the barring look lighter like a male, but the first pic looks like a pullet.
I'm sure it's just the angle and blur but almost looks like 2 different birds with orange bands..🤨

Nope, it's the same bird, orange was just the hardest to get to sit still for photos.

I'm over here telling him to "Sit Pretty for me" and that I only need one good photo. And he's like nah, I wanna go explore.

These are the other photos I snapped, but didn't post.

Getting him to turn his head and look at me was more work then it should have been.

Just realizing the legs are yellow on everyone. I hope someone didn't do a Barred Rock mix up at TSC.
Legs should be slate grey with pinkish white with pink feet.

Should have leg feathering also but that's hit and miss thru hatchery (Hoover supplies TSC I believe)

It's not uncommon for day olds to hatch with yellow legs/feet caused by absorption of egg yolk but by 6 weeks they should not be yellow.

@BlueTheBrahma knows cuckoos better than I.

Oh no, I missed that too. I was just noticing that they had unusually nice barring for cuckoo Marans…

I don’t think these are marans. The barring is too distinct for female cuckoos, more like a barred rock. They all have yellow legs, so can’t even be an F1 Marans x Barred rock. The shading on the legs also makes me think they’re not pure barred rocks.

I took photos of just their legs so you could see them better.

And I added photos of what they looked like at around a week old.

Any thoughts on actual breed of these guys? Do these pictures help you guys determine that?
Also any guesses on sex when looking at their 6 week old photos?

I’m trying to think. Sorry, I realised after I wasn’t very helpful by not actually suggesting what it was rather than what it wasn’t. Let me have a think and I’ll respond again. Where are they from again?
