I also have about 100 pounds to lose. I have tried a lot of different ways to lose it and have not had much luck. The doctors always test for my thyroid and it always comes back normal. I have been doing a diet recently that is no carb, and no caffine and also no dairy! I lost three pounds but I can't seem to stand the fact that I am always hungry even though I can eat every two hours. My stomach is also complaining about all of the fruit and veg. I eat. I will probably go back on the ww. good luck with everything!

Oh my you have been through Heck. No I dont do diet food I am a pretty good cook myself. And know how to take out the ""fluff"" from recipes and make them healthy. Breakfast is my biggest hurdle. i cannot bear food till about nine in the morning. But I do better with a low carb high protein food program. Thats me.... I have been on every diet program there is from the airforce diet to HCG shots. And what I have found for me is EVERY time I diet to loose weight what ever I loose I gain back two fold.

The very last time was back in 2001. I had started in 2000 with a new horse a six year old pasture ornament. At the time I weiged around 330. I could still walk then. My horse was six years old and never broke for riding or driving. My intention was to train her for driving. The requirements for this are lots and lots and lots of walking along side behind and around your horse while managing the driving lines and teaching how to accept different behaviors required of becoming a driving horse. I lost thirty pounds in about six months. I was in heaven. And had tipped the scale below three hundred pounds in almost ten years.

But I reached a point where I could no longer go further because of my own limitations as a trainer. I needed help from an experienced trainer to help me hitch my horse to a vehicle for the very first time. Trainers are not cheap and I was not working..... so it took me a year to find one. She broke my mare for riding and I was finally able to ride her around the ranch and just a little bit on the trail. But I had an accident. The mounting block steps collapsed and I fell. The actual falling part was no big deal. I have had horses now 44 years and know how to land. My mistake was trying to stop the fall. I snapped my ACL ligament.

It took almost three months to get my insurance to pay for the reconstruction surgery. It took almost a year before I could walk with only a cane.... and my weight was blossoming. That was the tipping point for me.

So now ten years later I cant look back it is counter productive. I have to look forward.

That's why I posted the link!!! It's still an active thread after all these months, so something must be good about it, right?

I just peeked in to the thread and may join in.... small goals are better than no goals for sure. I have 2 one is to get in my next size down pants and one is to get stronger. I wont weigh myself but judging from my 5x sized shirts and jeans I am probably pushing 400 lbs. So needless to say that goal is very daunting. According to the "official" weight charts at 5'7" I should be around 150. I would be happy to see 300 again.

WRT stregnth. I can press 350+- pounds with my legs or I wouldnt be able to walk. Bad knees hips and back or not I am still strong. I can still lift a bale of hay by the strings and knee it over to a cart for transport.

I need ..... what do I need.... that is the question. I need a positive out look. That needs to come from within doesnt it....

so maybe I should be focusing in on the things I CAN do AM successful in rather than where I am Deficient or lacking....

just thinking out loud here....

Do you have access to a pool? I can't "swim" with all the ruined body parts, but i can backstroke still so i do that twice a week, less strain on the joints and very little impact.

exercise is only part of the picture. I hate it with a passion myself. But doing chores is the "E" word. Even folding laundry. I am so jaded with regard to diet I can hardly consider it again. but there was a wonderful woman who I walked with years ago. She was a fitness instructor and a physiologist. one thing she told me that gave me hope was the fact that ""It takes the same amount of calories to walk a mile as it does to run one"" Especially at a low fitness level. And that the more muscle you add the more calories you burn just by breathing.

Now once I can get to the point where I can ride my horse again I will be starting up dancing again. I used to love to do Country and western dancing. Was pretty good with it in my day. Even did some Clogging too. Now there are some fun goals in the future... Arthritis or no.

See, you have FUN things that you can look forward too... riding horses and dancing!!
I, sadly, have no talents.

But if i could even walk down to the river on my road(like i used to be able to do..) and go fishing without thinking i'm going to die from lack of breath and my heart racing and hurting.... that would be a good thing for me!
Little steps...little steps...
YOU can do it!!

are you talking reconstructive surgery? My latest weight gain I can trace back to an accident that put me over the edge.

Both. the linch pin is that I was in a car accident, if i'd been crossing the street and hit by a car, the HMO would still cover it, but since I was inside a car, they're not terriably inclined to be proactive. Before I was hit i was teaching dance 3 times a week, surfing weekly, and wore yoga pants for actual yoga. I was on the same insurance when i had our 2nd son, which included a life-flight and months in the hospital ICU (for me) and time in the NICU for him, so I'm at the limits for what the HMO will cover (I had my tubes tied, no more babies).
