Help chicken walking weird. Today I noticed she seems like her knee is going out in a weird way. Does anyone know what this is called so I can look it

As long as hens are laying eggs, they can't suffer from too much calcium. However, non-layers, roosters, and pullets not laying yet can get too much calcium, but it would take months of it to be hard on the kidneys.

Give the calcium and be confident no harm will be done over a few weeks of treatment.

well I just looked it up and it does say to be careful with calcium because of kidney problems. So that’s why I hadn’t bothered to put out oyster shell yet because nobody’s laying....
also this conversation has got me thinking... could it be the food!?!? I just opened a new bag but before this I had been feeding everyone from the same bag and I have 6 little chicks who are outside now probably 6 weeks or more and from the second week 1 little welsumer just didn’t thrive. She’s tiny. She did grow feathers and seems to be growing but to an untrained eye looks like one of her sisters babies. I wonder if she has some vitamin deficiency to. I’m reading if the bag is old or the ratio isn’t mixed properly the vitamins and minerals can deteriorate.

Ok thanks for that. I was a little conflicted. She’s not laying but with a obvious problem I feel like it’s the right thing to do. I’ll give it for 2 weeks and see if there’s improvement

Good plan. It's what I would do. If nothing else, you can know you tried something.

Feed does degrade over time. Some stores will keep old feed on the floor until someone buys it. You might be able to get away with this for older birds, but chicks and youngsters still growing need every single nutrient in the feed because they are developing so very very quickly. When buying feed for growing birds, you absolutely must check the mill date.

A couple months ago, I was in Tractor Supply getting Purina Flock Raiser. I tried to check the mill date on the sew tape but the company had changed the code to something I couldn't begin to figure out. I went and asked an employee to come help me figure it out. They had no clue and stood there staring at me. I said, "Get your phone out and call the company and ask. He did. We both learned something.

Wow I had no idea....

No improvement yet on my girl… I’ve started to put a scoop of yogurt in her food and she seems to like it and I figured the extra calcium would be good. I’m mixing her food with nutra-drench, yogurt, calcium powder that also has D3, oyster shell and water. She is so very bow legged but still gets up to roost with everyone.
