Update!

Just gave Carmella another dose of water as well as antibiotics, she is resting now. Gregory got food! 60mL of food this time, and he is very happy about it. I'm going to give Carmella her food in a couple hours, still smaller doses though.

My DUX is resting comfortably in a warm place right now....

I did not read the thread, but from the title I assume we need help attracting mink?



Seriously. if you have weasels get cats!!! They have kept them at bay here. I have cats upon cats... I hate cats...BUT I hate weasels and rats more.....I let my old get (let as in how could I stop her) from having kittens a couple times a year.

I feed them enough food to not be overly hungry, but not enough they become lazy.

I doubt they would take on a mink, BUT I have not lost a chick to the small fur bearers since I got cats..

I guess this might just be the perfect excuse to get cats. Lol. We have some in the neighborhood already, but only 2 or 3 and they have a whole neighborhood and a few different farms to choose from, with no other competition. Needless to say, they are fat cats. So maybe the neighborhood need some more.

Gave Carmella 30mL of food through the tube a while ago. She is holding her head up better and is more talkative than previously. She tends to hold her head off to one side though, as shown below. This happens when she is laying down as well. I hope it is just because she is still tired/sore and hopefully it will continue to correct itself. Still making her a pillow to sleep under, or else she ends up laying on the side of her face and she gets crusties on her eye which I then have to wash off with saline. They are just wood shavings mixed with tears.

Going to get in one more feeding before bed. (water first for Carmella she's not drinking by herself still)

I hate to be overly optimistic, but she seems to be doing so much better. I feel like she's going to pull through with a bit more TLC. She definitely got the worst of it out there. Are you gonna put Gregory back outside soon, or will he stay with her until she's better too?

Did you end up getting your coop? (Is that what you call the place ducks live?) mink-proofed yet?
