Hi! I have twenty, eight week old chicks. A super cute mix of EEs, Ameraucanas, White Polish and Silkies. So this is my first experience with chicks so bare with me. They are still in our garage in their water troft brooder. We had planned to move them into their enclosed coop and run about two weeks ago but our unpredictable Idaho weather got very cold and our nights got down into the thirties so I decided to wait until it got warmer. A few days I noticed one or two chicks sneezing. I didn’t think much of it but today that I noticed that many of them are sneezing. I can’t even really keep track which ones are at this point honestly. I have looked at their eyes and nostrils and am not noticing any discharge except one of my EEs has a red line above both of her eyes but I’m not sure if that is related. (See pic) My initial reaction is that it might be their bedding. It is the pelletized pine bedding. It’s great but after a day when they have pooped and spilled water the pellets turn into dust. And let me tell you this dust goes everywhere. It’s covered my cars, my whole garage. So I’m wondering if the dust of the pine is affecting them and getting into their nostrils. But even when I take them outside for a few hours for their “rec” time I can still hear them. They are eating and running around like crazy and don’t appear sick. We will be moving them in three days but I am so worried about my sweet first flock that I would love any advice! Thanks so much!
