Sorry, been a busy day. Is the duckling still doing ok?

I think the pics look fine. The bill is clear, so it can breathe. The other end, I would just keep moist with the Vaseline. You don't need to wrap in a paper towel, that can actually cause a chill as it dries out. you can keep one damp nearby, or a little sponge. Also keep the membrane around the end with the bill hanging out moist with Vaseline, so it doesn't get stuck to its feathers.

As long as you see a "yawning" motion being made by the duckling, that's a good sign, just continue to wait. It's still absorbing the yolk. when it starts to struggle to get out, you may have to gently assist.

Yes she is still yawning and chirping every now and then. How long until you think it will want to hatch? Should I check on it throughout the night or will it take longer to absorb the yolk. Also what temperature do you suggest the incubator?
I've got it at 98.5 because I have heard to have it at 99 but I've also heard it should be dropped to 98 so I split the difference

Does your incubator have a fan? I find that they seem to dry out a little quicker with a fan, so the Vaseline may need reapplied every 3-4 hours.

Did this one ever break the shell itself? if so, how long ago?

Temp is fine, 98-100 anywhere in between is ok at this point.

Thanks! My incubator is very basic with no fan, and she is malpositioned ( pipped opposite the air cell and I don't think her head is under the wing the way it is supposed to be) she pip through the shell about 6 hours ago, but could not get through the membrane it was leathery. ( I had a lot of humidity control problems)
So I helped through the membrane and made sure she could breathe, but she did crack the shell on her own.

Now remember that they normally use the air cell air for about 24 hours, then external pip for another 24-36 hours. So since she didn't use the air cell, you could be in for a very long wait! Since you can see the other end, that's where the yolk is, so keep an eye on it.
Ya know, if it were me, I'd coat the other end well with Vaseline, then possibly cover with saran wrap, tape it over the hole. That might help that end to keep from drying out even more. just a thought.

Yea you won't usually hear anything unless they are in the air cell. Could you be mistaken on hearing it? I can't imagine it turned that quickly.
And you could have seen a leg/knee pressing into the air cell.

The last 2 siblings had already died by that point, so there was only one egg left to chirp, so I'm sure it was her. This whole clutch has been weird though. So who knows!
