I raised a Wood Duck last summer that was lost from his family.
I KNEW NOTHING at all about waterfowl... I just researched some stuff
on the internet , fed him Duck/Goose Chic food , he lived in the house with
us and we live on a Lake, so everynite and Sat and Sun I took him swimin.He
would stay right around our dock and not venture to far unless I was with him.
I grew VERY attatched to him cuz being an only Duck he wanted to follow me
and go everywhere with me... I took him to work one day or so a week and
arranged my schedule around this Duck... I also made sure he got to hunt bugs
and worms and play in the dirt and walked him for exercise thinking he would
leave when he was old enough (wild instinct) and sure enough he did, he stayed
around the lake for a month after he left home, coming back every few days so
I could hold him and feed him BUT he did leave with the other ducks and went
south .... Havent seen him back yet....but hopin he is...
I would let your duck decide if he wants to leave or not... he will know what
to do... It was a Geat Experience that I will NEVER forget.. I miss him dearly.
