I wouldn't consider a mosquito bite life threatening. Would you say the mark on his comb looked raised and scabby, or more flat, shiny, and slick? Could be the hen pecked him.

You don't have to hand feed him if he'll eat normally. Sometimes using the damp foods (cooked oatmeal, mashed egg yolk) triggers their appetite. The good sounds good, the negative sounds not very major at the moment. The weight issue is probably from him not eating quite the way he did before. They lose weight quick.

Watch the comb for more black spots. If it turns out he has avian pox, it's usually not a big deal. Giving him the vitamins will help support him immunologically through that (as it's a common virus).

Mix the yolk of the egg with his regular food. He really has lost weight hasn't he? Remind me - had he ever been wormed? What are his droppings like right now? If he doesn't do the polyvisol, you'll probably have to give him 3 drops in the beak. Honestly I would recommend that anyway - or using something like Poultry NutriDrench from TSC. I was just looking at that product and it looks like it could be useful to you. I see someone here just recommended it - I would second that. I also agree about giving the parrot formula (Exact, etc) but give it warm, not hot. (Hot is for the younger babies). It'll provide the bacteria that yogurt provides, which he should be getting daily - it's important, very very important with a skinny bird, that they get living bacteria either through yogurt or another source. Also any live yeast cultures (like brewers yeast) or maybe more vitamin B (which NutriDrench provides a little more of) can trigger his appetite. Some places sell fighting-chicken supplies which include a product that is a B vitamin given orally - B vitamins trigger appetite. So those are some various options. (Rooster Booster makes one if your feedstores have that.)

I'd say it's very important to make sure he gets three full drops of polyvisol in the beak so I'd give it direct in the beak, at the side of the beak so you don't get it right in his airhole at the back of his tongue.

ok again thanks for yalls help, i am going out to get some more straw
for thier bedding, and check on my supplies list.

yes he has lsot weight, lots. i dewormed them in october last year but i thought i should wait to see if he gets better to deworm him again, yes or no? also their poop is normaj, a little runny but mostly normal. the hen is perfectly fine, she continues to lay eggs and such...

his black spot is not a scab just a mark that looks smaller now. gave him 3 yokes today which he hate half of each...a little yogurt to but he is getting pickier,a little oatmeal but niether one likes it...the hen is addicted to the poly-vi-sol but he is uninterested anymore to which i force it on him and mix it in his food and water just in case..tommorrow istart force feeding him if he doesn't eat more....i don't think he is sleeping on the perch at night cuz he has poop on his front feathers, to which he normally doesn't lay down on the ground...he doesn't have any fresh poop stains on his but feathers...

thank u for yalls encourgment, i hope it works...

Ohhh straw. I'd really consider using horse-stall pine shavings. Straw bedding can cause issues as it's not absorbent and spores stay active and are activated by any moisture (something I've learned the hard way with horses). That might help things a bit.

The black spot sounds like a little blood spot - like a small injury, so that's good news actually. The fact that he's not eating isn't the best news. On the worming - that's a hard call. If you do, only do Wazine 17 (piperazine 17) again.

Can you give him straight vitamin B somehow? To increase his appetite?

ok well i talked to the guy at the store and he said that he would go ahead and deworm him anyways with wazine...do i have the go ahead? couldn't find any nutri-drench....

also when i was at the store....i got some things

1.parrot fumula -which neither one will eat.

2. a vitamin called VetRx..should i use this? remember he is still on Poly-vi-sol and i don't wanna do a michael jackson with an overdose of medication...(description below)

1. They will never eat the parrot formula on its own (that I know of). It's for using as a paste in their beak. Make it warm, not hot.

2. The VetRx isn't a vitamin and isn't medicinal - it's like Vicks Salve for chickens - only with some additional benefits. It reduces mucus, clears airways, can be used against eyeworm, helps reduce inflammation, and is used as a leg dressing. Use to swab the nares/roof of the mouth. I don't put it in the water. It's for respiratory issues. I always keep some around as it's great stuff for that which it's good.

it's labeled for use in the wate because it's an oil - and it sits on top of the water. If you had a pen of birds with respiratory illness that you were giving just plain water, then it might be good as when they drink they treat their own beaks. I've used it like that before. But generally it's best used on q-tips on nares etc.

If he's breathing right, I wouldn't bother with it for now unless you can sense any wheezing, sniffling, sneezing. Keep in on hand because it IS useful though.

3. I'm familiar with vitaflight. You could use that in the water or on food. I wouldn't use that and formula and polyvisol howevver. I'd use that if they were eating feed normally, use parrot formula if they're not.

4. Good at least on the egg.

Worming: I'd consider it. but he's weak. This is one of those situations where I really wish a vet (who knew what he was doing, like an avian vet) could check him out.

massala update:

nothing new...thanks so much. i'm thinking if he aint fine by monday i will call the local vets and see if they do chickens.....

the hen started eating the formula and i saw him pickin at it a bit, have to force feed his polyvisol now, but the hen is addicted still. still really skinny. black dot very small now, seen him eat and drink. behaves normally except not getting on the perch...

thanks for all the descriptions....

Have you tried making a paste out of the feed and vitamins and feeding that to him? Maybe mashed egg yolk with the vitamins in it? Parrot hand-feeding formula?

I agree on the vet if you can find a good one. but if they prescribe an antibiotic, PLEASE do a "culture and sensitivity" test if you can. Too many vets just will write a script and not really know why. I hate to be cynical, but... Antibiotics and birds are way different than antibiotics and cats/dogs.

ok thanks threeehorses, sorry i have not updated but there has not been almost any change at all, i wanna believe his color is coming back but i am to scared to hope for the best..his weight still bothers me, we are still force feeding hims polvisol...aagain thanks yal for ya help.
