If you had bought baby chicks then you could have told if it's a he or a she and this is how you could have known; when the babies hatch they don't have a tail but after about 1 to 2 weeks the hens will grow tails and the roosters wont have tails but after few months the roosters will also grow tails soooo......... yeah.
