Help Me Name My Fish!!! *Img Hvy*

The ranchu should be Mukluk
The ryukin should be Princess (what ryukin shouldn't?)
The moor should be Kermit
The calico should be Pizza
I've never known a betta with enough personality for a name...

ps, it's true. 10 gallons isn't big enough. for goldies you want 5 to 10 gallons per fish (to thrive). They get really big, and can live a looong time if kept well.

Well, the master kit for fresh water is about 30 bucks. A good 30-50 gallon filter runs about 30-50. The products that claim to auto cycle for you is usually just a sales gimmick and a waste of money in my opinion. The white on the lip was probably ick, something that can be stress induced by changes in temp, pH, nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia. Tough thing about fish are that unlike chicks where you can improvise a extra heat lamp and clean out shavings, you have to maintain the water, which is their world. If you do try to keep them all, I'd feed them only every other day to reduce the wastes going into the water. They would like to eat constantly, so skipping a day won't hurt them too much. Or just smaller meals. I go with pellets for gold fish as flakes are wasteful and can cause the fish to swallow air and get bloated or constipated.

Oh my.... I will have to skip the master kit for this week. I will just take water in to get tested. I don't have a whole lot of cash, and a lot of that goes for gas.

The fish people said it was a fungus (without seeing it) and sold me about 20 dollars worth of stuff to fix it. I tried to wipe it off of his nose, but it seemed like it was part of him. Should I stop the water treatments they gave me then?

I am feeding them flakes because that is what the store was feeding them, and I didn't want to stress them out more by changing food on them. In order to change to pellets, would I have to mix them with flakes for a while to get them to eat them? Or do I just swap the food cold turkey?

OMG! I just found the most KILLER deal on Craigslist!!!

This will solve so many problems for me! I will have room for my four goldies plus some! I think I will give away my moor, and possibly my calico, and go get an oranda, and call it good.

Oh and get this, this person is only about forty five minutes or less from me! So so so worth it.

I hope you can get your new tank. I hope it's still available for you.

Good job on taking care of your fish. Fish are often forgotten when it comes to neglect and cruelty. Many people would not have followed the group's advice and would have kept the fish in the 10 gallon and excused them as "just fish."

It's funny how expensive a simple hobby like aquariums can get, even without buying those fancy or expensive fish.

I think you'll enjoy them and you new tank.

That is a great deal. I really hope you are able to get it. 75 is a great size, it's not huge but leaves you with a lot of options and more room for mistakes.

what a huge fish.. How big of tank is it in..

I dont have a tank as of now .. but we are planning a remodel and when we are done.. we are adding a living room onto the back side of the house.. well anyway I want to have a tank that will wrap around a out corner.. or even a half circle against the wall with the edge paralell with the corner.. anyway I cant wait..

Good luck on the tank! Under stocking is always better than over stocking. Bruce probably lives in a pond type housing that is hundreds of gallons as my guess.

The master kit should last for a good long while vs the strips which cost less at first but are less accurate and don't do as many tests so you have to buy more often. As for the treatments. I don't know if you should go or stop because I've only had to treat for ich once when temps spiked in the house and the fish died anyways. I'm not a fan of medicating anything and them first selling you a fresh tank that needs a month to get ready, 5 fish, and then meds to fix a problem that was probably preventable, sounds pretty standard for them getting your money.

For food, I cold turkey everything but mixing may be a good idea. If you see any constipation going on, cooked green peas are great. My big fish at the moment sucks in 2-3 per bite.

silkiechicken: What does fish constipation look like? I have seen them with long streams of poo coming from their rears that just hangs there for a while, is that what you are talking about?

Thanks for the well-wishing guys! I call on the tank at 8:30 sharp as I think anything earlier may just annoy them.
