Help me to choose Rooster for my RIR, BSL pullets

do you have enough room for a large flock of chickens.?
If not, be careful of how many you hatch.
cross breed chickens can be difficult to rehome.
even purebreds can be a challenge sometimes. and roosters are even more difficult, no matter what breed.

I have 5 roosters. you can have your pick of any of them for free. just come and pick one out.

I have no problem butchering any chicken, rooster or pullet..

Before I got my OPMD in full swing, I built many coops. I keep my breeds separated. If I experiment with a hybrid, they are to replace eating eggs or get eaten. However, all the breeds are separated in their own coops. The only co-mingling happens in the brooder/grow out box before they go to their respective breeding coops.

I don't think I need to read any more books about chickens. I have been raising chickens by the hundreds for over 50 years.
Not only chickens, I have and have had guineas , turkeys, geese, muscovy, ducks, peacocks,.
I hatched eggs from all of them.
I used to sell over 300 guinea keets each year.
I have 3 large incubators and have the capacity to hatch 26oo eggs at a time. right now I have 163 assorted duck and chickens in one of the bators that I set just yesterday. for a friend.

I also do custom incubating for customers , some of which bring me 700 eggs at a time.
now, tell me again that I don't know what I am talking about..

Yes, they will. They will see who is dominant and who is submissive. I try to keep about two per coop so that I can keep fertility levels high, and if I loose one, at least there is a back up.

I try to average about 20 hens or so.

Yeah, I have raised many many roos from multiple breeds. Just like all animals, different breeds have different dispositions and intellect. It is like suggesting that a male Chihuahua and Rottweiler share the same disposition. They don't.

Youre right they dont.
Just like every Chihuahua doesnt have the same disposition nor does every Rottweiler have the same.

What do you want to accomplish with a rooster : protection, warning system, egg production, dual purpose, flock sustainability ? There are many factors involved when selecting a flock master.

I'm with Sourland. Why do you even want a rooster? Some people think they need them for the girls to lay eggs! That's an old wives tale. You can have all girls and still have top egg production.
