He’s looking very good. Get him some niacin and I think he’ll be ok. He still has some shrinking up to do be not as much. So he’s in good shape right now. Once he closed up more he’ll get steady on. His feet.

He may close up with out absorbing the rest of his yolk. As long as he’s lively as can eat and poop. He should be ok. He has to poop it’s very important that he does.

I will say your prediction was correct. He’s a sticky chick. Although it could be very well mistaken for a busted yolk. But not in your case. Now he doesn’t need food for at least three days. I personally won’t offer food for at least 24 hours and only if his up on his feet. Because once you offer him food you have to offer him water. He’s not ready for water. So for my hatchings they will not get anything for at least 24 hours and then depending how they are acting. If they are up and walking etc. then I will offer food and water. But your little guy will need some niacin but only after he has made good progress.

Thank you for getting back again @Lacrystol baby has continued perking up. I've stopped offering food for now and we managed to get a few real sips of water in this afternoon. They are much more alert. Still getting little poos, and I've been making sure I wipe the vent clean, they're just greeny like meconium at the moment. We do have some brewer's yeast but because I normally get it in small sachets and mix them into big 20kg bags of pellets I'm not completely sure how to measure it out. I'll do some research. Is there a product more suitable? Here is baby bum today. The internal bulge is decreasing so the fluff is pulling together a little more and the nub is certainly smaller than yesterday afternoon.

I'm incredibly relieved for this second opinion. I had that horrible feeling yesterday where all my blood felt cold and heavy! I don't think anyone was intentionally unkind but it felt like I was being told I had killed him when I have read up nearly every night and did what I thought were good, and informed intentions. I'd certainly not take so much shell off next time so the kick out was slower but I've heard enough about amber fluid and seeing it stuck to him like acrylic paint just scared me. Out of curiosity, if I'd have used coconut oil on that hard amber stuff and put him back in while in the egg, or wrapped him in a damp cloth and put him back in the incubator once hatched (two things suggested) what might have happened? (I realise you can't know for sure!) they were both suggested as things I should have done when others thought the yolk had burst.

I also notice the baby on this post in 2015(!), the one that seemed so familiar and lead me back here (why do I ever stray when I have poultry questions?!) the baby kicked out too.

Here is the nub today (3 days since hatch). They are perking up and drinking. We are going to push some food today.

Here we are on day 4. Duckling is actively drinking. We are using SmartWater which is which is vapour distilled water with electrolytes added. We have also put some Marigold Engevita yeast flakes into their crumb which is then soaked in the electrolyte water (we were told it was better at this small scale than brewer's yeast and have added it at a ratio (UK measurements so just the cutlery!) of one and a half tablespoons to a cup of crumb. They seem very typical in them themselves, calling and moving around. We are spraying the nub with Vetericyn and it appears to be yellowing. Still cleaning the vent regularly as it getting a bit messy and we want that area clean. Poop is mostly white water waste and green meconium. Getting a little concerned baby hasn't actively sought food. Tried various levels of mushiness and also a small spider! Going to keep this updated in case it's ever useful to someone else but can't help feeling worried.

@Miss Lydia I hope you don't mind me tagging you as I saw you like my post on the similar situation. Do you have any suggestions or anything we could do differently? Baby is under a brooder on top of a baby towel which we are changing daily.
