Help! My last barred rock is on one leg! Literally!!!!!

Pics
Currently soaking in a warm epsom salt bath.
After stimulating and lubing, she started pushing. As I was watching her struggle the tip of a brown egg appeared.
I am not going to lie, I lived up my finger and gave her a little push on the egg every once and a while. Especially when she'd stop trying to push it out.
I succeeded in getting the egg out.
But she is super exhausted and probably really stressed.
I have her near a heat lamp and am hoping she is just super stressed/tired and not on the verge of death from the stress.

She is egg bound.
Oh my poor girl.
So much going on with her at once.

Your poor chickie. And you! That may have been hard on her, but I'm sure she must feel a whole lot better having that egg out. Hopefully this makes the difference. :fl

Great job again! :thumbsup So sorry you're having this to deal with. :hugs
She's very fortunate to have you as her owner.:)

Thanks so much. I just kept getting mixed information via the internet. For example; I was told to push the egg back up in her. --- Then I read not to do that because if the egg broke, I'd have another list of problems. -- Then I read to put her in a dark, quiet place and let her pass the egg on her own.....But I just went with my gut. She still isn't putting weight on one leg, so using me as a crutch she would then start to push....Then she got tired and basically wanted to sleep. But I had read somewhere else that if she was egg bound for more than 48 hours she'd die.
So out came the lube. That seemed to stimulate her and make her want to start pushing again. Once I could literally see the tip of the brown egg, I lubed up and spent an hour gently helping her push it out. I figured if it was okay for me to check a couple inches inside her for an egg, then having my finger inside lubing and rotating the egg wouldn't hurt. Then once I felt the back of the egg, I would just let her push and I'd give a gentle push as well.
Hoping things start taking a turn for the better now.

Sometimes you have to pick through what feels right to you and go with your gut...just like you did.

I have no idea about this "But I had read somewhere else that if she was egg bound for more than 48 hours she'd die." Seems extreme but I'm not sure.

There is a risk of more complications and infection if the egg breaks inside...so getting it out intact was the best idea...even if it meant she got that tired. Maybe that's why she hasn't been so interested in water/food. Hopefully it is a turn around point. :fl

I know. I can't believe everything that is on the internet, that's why I winged it.
If you've noticed, there are BYC members who have the educator award on their profile. Everyone has their own specialties, but those members have earned those awards because they know their stuff and have passed the staff's vetting process. :)

I was completely unaware of that.
Let's just say I kind of skipped the video tutorial. XD

That's why you have to trust yourself and try to stay on sites that you know have "real" information. That's why I like this site, so much info from people who actually interact with chickens on a daily basis and very little judgement. Only you know what is best for your family, but others can help you figure that out. Can't wait to hear how she is doing tomorrow.
