HELP!!!!! NEEDING ADVICE AND HELP ON DUCK EGG INCUBATING 25-30??

Pics
I have American blues and buffs. No light.
Mine lay about 2x a week during the summer and once every week or so in winter. They only lay 35-40 eggs a yr.

Keep reading, I explained why I thought it was a hybrid and Inwas confused.. I think twi duck people wanting answers. And I am talking about a hybrid duck as she allows them all to congregate together. They are all mallards so they will mix.

Oh, I think it was a terminology issue that was causing confusion :) Are you meaning mixed breed instead of hybrid? Like two mallard derived breeds mated to create a mixed breed duckling? A hybrid would be a cross of a muscovy and a mallard-derived breed. Maybe that's where the misunderstanding is happening. I thought you meant a cross between a muscovy and a mallard, and those are two different species and the resulting hybrid ducklings hatch at day 32 when they're incubated at the correct temperature. This egg hatching on day 29 at a low temperature rules that out.

Do you add light for them? Or have a production breed like Chinese? I've never had my geese lay past June. It doesn't really matter since the OP's baby is definitely not a gosling, I'm just curious.

I know muscovies live feral in Florida and they're probably present in most ponds, but the OP has said that there are no muscovies in her friend's pond where the egg came from. Also, the temperature would have to be pretty high for a muscovy to hatch on day 29, and the OP's temperature was actually low. Even hybrids take 32 days to hatch when incubated at the proper temperature.

I'm not saying it's impossible that it's a hybrid, just that it's very unlikely given the information we have. Well, time will tell :)
I was waiting for your response!! Phew, you’re giving me hope that maybe he’s a pekin!! But either way very happy that he hatched without a problem!

Post a picture when he's dry :) I'd bet he'll look a lot less dark. To me, he looks yellow, and yellow down means a white adult duck.

One other reason I suspect he's a pekin is that white, in mallard derived ducks, is recessive, meaning to get a white duckling, both parents must be white or carry white. So going from the list of ducks you have at that pond, it sounds like only the pekins are white, and thus, only they could produce a white duckling. There's always a chance that one of the other ducks there happens to be a mixed breed that is carrying white, but even still, that would just make this little one a domestic mixed breed duckling, and there's nothing wrong with that :)

On the topic of finding it a companion, check craigslist; you might find some people selling ducklings there.

I would be more focused on finding your little duckling a friend to* socialize with rather than trying to figure out what it might be mixed with.. Are you incubating other duck eggs that are close to hatching? If not maybe you can find some unwanted ducklings on craigslist.. In the mean time you can put a little mirror in whatever set-up you have him in temporarily.
