This is one of our leghorns. See attached photo. I was told this could be an ear infection? How do I help our hen? She is acting normal and unbothered. We want to address this before it gets worse, and to know how to prevent it in the future. If you’re familiar with this, any guidance would be appreciated!

What is this?
How do we fix it?
How do we prevent it?

What is your general location? Has it been freezing weather? Is there a bad odor around the chicken’s head? Have you seen any ticks around the coop? Is the chicken congested or having any sneezing, gasping, or crackles when breathing? Swollen bluish wattles could be from frostbite, a tick bite, or a respiratory disease, including coryza or fowl cholera. The swollen ear could be related to one of those. Hopefully we can help you.
