Help please, Eggbound, tried lots of things, WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURE

Oh, I didnt even think of the noise...dumb. Have a breast pump by chance? I know mine had some super strong suction, and barely made a sound. Seems kind fo weird, but I think it might work...

I was thinking on the lines of one with a long hose, so you could keep the vacuum in another room.

How about an ear syringe or turkey baster to get the egg out? Youn eed to do something at this point. Vet or try to break the egg yourself.

since this thread was opened i have researched egg binding and from what i have read if you are able to crack the egg and let the hen push it out it is much better then you pulling it out ..now please take into consideration that i rad this on line and i dont know how true this is...but anything at this point is better then nothing

I would avoid prepH, that will make the skin contract more around the egg as that is what it is designed to do. I too would break the egg and let her expel it at this point...if it were my chicken.

This exact thing happened to one of my bantam silkies yesterday. I put on some latex surgical gloves, lubbed them up as well as the prolapsed vent......and was able to gently (with one index finger on each side) push the red tissue back around the egg. I did this very slowly and the bird didn't even seem to mind. In my case, the issue now is the prolapsed vent keeps popping back out. I've put it back in at least a half dozen times so far. Good luck!!

I have heard on here that if you keep a hen in somewhat darkness this will slow or stop egg production...

If this is true I wonder if you keep the hen in darkness for say 48 - 72 hours to give the swelling in the vent to go down maybe the prolapse will heal on its own...just a thought

Please someone break the egg, cut the membrane, or just kill the bird.

It is cruel to leave the animal in this condition. Waiting it out isn't going to work. Action needs to be taken NOW, now take it, for the birds sake!

I would bust the egg with ANYTHING I could find. Have someone restrain the bird and use a kitchen knife and try to "twirl" a hole in the tip of the egg. ANYTHING, get creative! This animal is suffering. Apply some force!! It's an egg, not a rock, it will break!

If you CANNOT bust the egg. Just take a sharp, fresh razor blade and cut the membrane that blocks it.

If you do not want to do that, put the animal out of it's misery!

So sorry I didn't get back in here until now with the update...
life got busy today and my computer time was ... well - last on the list.
I saw a boat load of messages, but didn't have time to post.
Thanks for all the replies, support and suggestions.
Our hen seems to be fine after her back porch surgery last night. (still a bit worn out)
She seemed today, to want to be back out with the flock, but after her ordeal, I want to keep
her isolated another day or two. She's staying on the porch in the "hospital cage" sheltered from
bright light. I put a big fluffy towel in with her last night but she scratched it out of the way to lay on the
paper bags.. go figure.
We ended up having to do an episiotomy.. bottom side of the membrane. I couldn't find any
recommendations as to that but figured she'd heal faster without gravity pulling the small slit back
open. I figure the slit was about 3 mm and it barely bled. Just that much more opening and the
egg came right out.
That blasted egg just wouldn't come out whole and it was the hardest egg on earth (cracked that sucker
after we got it out - really had to slam it on the counter too) It wasn't even that big afterall...
just not even texture shell and very thick.
I'm thinking maybe she's getting too much calcium.. but I digress.
I washed the whole area with a very diluted saline solution since the membrane went back inside.
Somehow I don't think antibiotic ointment belongs on the inside of a chicken.
She's eating and drinking, walking around the hospital cage, pecking at the bars occasionally, then resting.
Hubby has said it's been amazing how many birds I've "saved" in one way or another since until we got this little
flock, I've been afraid of birds. (seeing a large parrot take someone's finger almost off will do that to ya)
The chicken rescues have been primarily due to the folks in this forum
thanks again everybody! Couldn't have done it without yas.
