I have a free-range 2 yr old peacock. I went out of town for three nights and my mom came to feed all of our animals. I have been getting home at dark trying to feed all the animals and running in to get myself and the kids ready for bed. Tuesday night I realized I hadn’t seen Pete the last two nights. I ran outside and found him laying on the ground. I walked over to him but he didn’t run from me like normal. I bent down touched his back, then started to check him to see if he had been attacked by something but there was no evidence of this. I couldn’t believe he was letting me do this to him. I picked him up and brought him in the house (he didn’t try to get away at all). He is unable to stand on his own, he leans to the right, wings down and he keeps his head down for the most part. I have been able to get him to drink water and eat a little, bit I’m having to help him do both. He just lays there. Has anyone had this happen? And what is thre cause?

Welcome to BYC. I am sorry about your peacock. Does he have any swelling of his face or respiratory symptoms? How are his poops? I wish I knew something about peafowl. Hopefully, @casportpony or someone else will be along shortly. I would keep him warm, offer NutriDrench or SaveAChick electrolytes and water. If he will eat some moist food or some egg, or something he really likes, offer it. Do you keep your peacock with other poultry or chickens?

He let me syringe some water in his beak the first night I found him like this. Last night he let me do the same but refused to eat. I woke up this morning and he does appear to have more energy. I held a bowl with food in it and he was eating very well and he also allowed me to give him water. The thing that concerns me is he still won’t stand on his own. I pick him up, stand him on his feet and remove my hands but he immediately starts to lean to the right. We do have a ewe that loves bird feed and always comes running trying to get it before our birds do so I’m wondering if she may have accidentally hurt him?!? As for his poop, I have no clue. I haven’t seen any in the pin I have him in now

Our chickens are in a coop in a separate fenced area. He does hang around our ducks though.

I hope your peacock got better. I’m wondering if you ever found out what the cause was. I have a hen with chronic sinus infections and wonder if you found a solution for your bird.
