HELP!!

I think it was a weasel. They are vicious little things, and go after anything that moves, and won’t stop until everyone is dead. A weasel got 2 of my feather babies a while back. They looked perfectly fine except for a little blood on their heads and faces. The next night it returned and got our little bantam polish. Body was untouched on the ground, but without a head. We found the head in the chicken feeder.
Holy cow! This must be why weasels have such a bad reputation for just being devious and mean. Why in the world would they attack the chickens and not eat them? That's horrible! So sorry!!!

My hens are free range but stay close to my house. I am just confused as to why something would come close to my house during that day!
I find it odd that other animals weren't making a lot of noise, like you say, or why the neighbor didn't hear anything at all. It is just so sad to lose so many chickens. I was happy to read that your 2 mo olds were safe. That's something to be thankful for.

That’s how I’m trying to look at it also. It was bad but could’ve been ALOT worse. Thank you for your thoughts... the situation is just so weird!

I am so sorry about your birds. Have you tried the poultry predator identifier tool? It sounds like that's sorta what you need.. http://www.poultrydvm.com/predator-identifier.php

This is very useful! I'm bookmarking now!

How goes it today? Any progress on your detective work? I'm still guessing fox as they kill without eating them all right away but I bet you'll know soon enough!

My bet would also be on fox. Had one take out a dozen hens a few weeks ago, in the middle of the day and right behind the house.

Almost sounds like dogs to me other than the heads being missing on some. Dogs will kill for fun and leave the bodies all over. Are there any dogs running loose in your area that could have possibly gotten them ?

There aren’t any dogs, my dog was away with me for the weekend and my neighbors dogs were inside the whole day. It’s still a mystery!
