good chilly wisconsin morning, it froze good last night,
I started potting the air layers.
the two mulberries are awesome. tons of roots
some of the grapes are very good , too,
a few of them are not so much. but I think I have enough to fill in the rest of the grape row next spring..
the apples are iffey .. but there are signs of root, so maybe they will perk up after I pot them..

Are the mulberry a special variety? The ones around here are weed trees that grow everywhere. However the poultry do like berries from certain trees better than others

yes, I believe these are the weed type mulberries.. I got a small tree from a friend who lives between Milwaukee and Madison.
she said they are a nuisance there..
I am not sure if these are the same kind of trees we had on the golf course where I worked in Illinois. those were delicious..
I have all the air layers in pots..
now it is another waiting game to see how they survive or not..

I painted the edges around the trim on the shed while hubby painted the outside with a roller.
I got the sides screwed on over the wire on the cages that i made sides for. There are lots to be done, let me tell you. I need a lot of plywood. I took one cage that needed legs put on it ( had been sitting on logs. I need to refine the feeders as the birds don't get to the bottom of the trough and the feed gets stale. They are too big, so i will cut them down.

good winter morning,
it is 39F here and snowing like hell..
does that mean that the growing season is over ??

OhGawd!!
Yes, unless you have a greenhouse!

The good 'S word' here...SUNNY!!
After what feels like weeks of clouds and rain, the forecast shows mostly sun and dry for the next 10 days. But it was 37 this morning...soon to be 60.
Already got the outside coop windows cleated shut and 'washed'.
Shade cloths are next...then some mowing.

I put the lawn mowers to bed for the winter a couple of weeks ago. rototiller too..
we are not going to turn on the radiant floor heat in the sunporch this winter. but we will run a small electric heater to just enough to keep it from freezing out there..
