Helpful hints for building coops

Good Luck.
Question is.....how many will you bring home?

I brought home 2 bantam polish hens and a bunny. Sold 8 chickens, and 3 chicks, gave a friend a rooster I didn't need. So net result, less chickens.

I built a gate today, and hung it so I can block off the goats from running down the Mule trail if they escape. Need to run one more length of wire at the other side of the goat pasture, and build another gate. Lots of gates to be built here.

Good start of winter morning to you all,
still raining here, supposed to turn to snow.
Nephew who is staying with us asked if he could turn the chickens loose. I said, go ahead. these chickens never free ranged before. they stayed in a bunch. even the three young rooster did. Not a squabble from them. They roamed through the black walnut grove all day.
I really am not in the butchering mood. With any luck at all, a bobcat will thin the flock..
Annie's cataract surgery went very well.
She tells everybody how clear and how white the whites are, and how colorful the colors are.. She sounds like a Tide commercial.
In Dec she will have the other eye done.

My mother preaches that surgery with missionary zeal to all she meets.

She said that she didn't realize that you were *supposed to* be able to see leaves at the tops of trees and confessed that she hadn't seen stars since she was a teen but had assumed that it was just light pollution hiding them.

Last 70 today here. Harvested 2 cockerels yesterday and plan on 2 today. Couldn't catch one yesterday, grabbed him last night and put in a crate. The other one I was thinking about waiting on, but I have a bunch of younger ones I will need to do over winter. So I have him locked up this morning. They are in 2 different coops.
Glad to hear about Annie's great outcome. Something I have to look forward to.

One thing I recommend that was a lifesaver for my new coop is add a flip-up opening/hatch under your nest boxes or somewhere in the coop so you can back your wheelbarrow up to the back and scrape the poop, old bedding, nasty nesting left behind, or whatever. Make sure you have a good latch so no predators get in.

I went shopping with DIL and Granddaughter today, and tonight I built two gates. Can't hang the gates tomorrow, as we are supposed to get up to 5" of rain tomorrow.

today was graduation day.. No more PT..
they are playing it week to week on operations.
I hope I will get mine in Jan.
Today is Fasching in Germany.

Annie said that if we take the blackberries out of the freezer, there will be room for the chickens.
She figures there are enough blackberries to make 25 gallons of wine. So yesterday she bought several packages of wine yeast. At Trigs, they give away food grade 5 gallon buckets. They get frosting in them for the bakery dept.
It looks like I will have something to do for the next few weeks.
