We appreciate all the kind replies to our posts! We're so happy to be able to share our new backyard hobby within this community! We wanted to share our updated photos of our young flock and ask some questions about our new additions.
Over the weekend, we took a road trip to a farm where we got 3 polish started pullets (Marbles will be going to a friend's flock after quarantine). We have them in a separate coop away from our main flock while they quarantine. When we brought them home, we noticed some things that we aren't very experienced with and were hoping for some advice:
Candy doesn't have any tail feathers, it looks like they were cut or plucked off? It's very obvious in the photo that she doesn't have any, and when we look closely it's obvious that there were feathers there at one time. We don't see any evidence of any mites or anything that could have caused this, the rest of her feathers look normal. Would someone have cut them off or is it more likely that she was bullied?
Marbles and Dottie have small amounts of blood on the bridge of their noses, that are new since coming home. They don't seem to be pecking at each other when we're watching them, but they do run their faces over everything. We trimmed around their eyes in case it was because they couldn't see.
Dottie's nose almost seems like it has a crack in part of it, or maybe a piece that's been chipped away? Again, is she likely being pecked at or is it from her running her face against things and injuring it that way? If it is cracked, what is the best way we can help her? (If it doesn't start looking better, we will post a picture of it).
We decided to change Cassiopea's (Cassi) name to Casey because we feel so strongly that this is a male. Casey has practically doubled in size from last week (bigger than some others like Buttercup and Jasmine), very thick legs, and very advanced comb and waddle for being so young compared to the others. Casey was the smallest of the 4 when we got them and is now twice as large as them.
And again comes the questions of what exactly Casey, Lily, and Poppy are? They were all in a bin with both Easter Eggers or Starlight Green Eggers in it.
No crowing yet from Pepper, even though we still feel strongly that we've got a rooster. So we'll hang on to him so long as he keeps quiet (no roosters allowed where we live), but Kyle's coworker is searching for a rooster for his flock of hens so Pepper would join them if he starts crowing.
