Here comes the FLOOD!

Yesterday's trip in will probably be the last for a few days. I think DH is going to bring in the boat. The wonderful news is that I found the cat. He was hiding on a self in an outside closet where I keep my canned goods. He was glad to see me, but not so glad to be stuffed in a tote.

I don't want you all to think I am risking life and limb going out to the house, the current at most ends me up in the tree tops a couple of times before I can maneuver the boat around to get out into the "main channel". The house is well built up on bridge timbers and solid .

I also want to thank all of you that have offered help and condolences. However, in spite of everything, we have been very lucky in having a warning and having a place to go, and the means to recover. There are so many out there that had no warning or no place to go, and do not have the means to recover.

The purpose of this thread has been as much for me as it has been to share with you. One of the reasons I love this forum is the peek we get inside the lives of others and I wanted to offer the same. But in doing that I have also found that sharing the experience helps to put it in perspective, catalog and file it.

The water still has a couple of days rise to go, and then the long wait for the waters to abate. We are still watching closely the areas of leakage outside the levee. The National Guard and Game and Fish officers are patrolling the levees and watching for any new seeps or boils.

WOW jen, so glad to hear you are doing good and thank you for giving us this chance to see what is really going on. The news only talks about what the gov is doing. Stay safe and keep your head up!

The Drew County Fair Board affirmed last evening to offer our fair grounds as an emergency shelter. Felt good to be a member of the fair board.

We were told that if an evacuation order is issued during school hours, school will not be dismissed. Instead, the buses will transport all students to the Drew County Fairgrounds where parents can pick them up. We are hoping the levee holds, but if it doesn't, Drew County will be available to assist.

Thanks for the peek inside your life. I for one could not live like you do. I would go nutso but it's your way of life and normal to you and you seem to love where you live! If you came to live where I do you would probably go nutso! I wish you guys the best and will continue to pray for you and all others affected. Be safe!!

Hang in there and check back as you can. Thank you for the update. I have a hard time imagining living through something like that. While we wake to the smoke of over 80 fires throughout Florida, you're dealing with flooding. It's weird. And it just plaine sucks. You're all in my prayers.

My family has been watching this post for days now. I appreciate your last post about not risking life and limb. On that note, I have used this post to talk to my young boys about the power of water, flooding, etc. We have also looked at the map to discuss how water here in Ohio (and as you know we've had plenty of rain here) eventually makes it's way south. So, while we pray for safety of you and your family and your animals, I am using the pictures to educate and somewhat scare my boys about flood water. So sorry you are going through this, just thankful it is not an annual occurrence for you. You have a beautiful home and property there, I can definately see why you love it.
