Okay, so will you guys confirm what I think I'm seeing? I think my eggs are dead. We candled and they should be 6 days in tonight, but they are fairly solid dark half way up the egg, and lighter colored on the top half. It is a very even line of light and dark. This is the blood having pooled after the early chick died, correct?
Thanks for input as we are newbies on incubating, and we're working with a really old and crotchety Little Giant. I think it is finally going to the grave if it killed the eggs. It was sitting on a shelf for like tenjf years before I fired it up a couple of weeks ago.
Day6? . they sound like they are right where they should be to me! Dont sound dead at all but i didnt read why you think they areI would let them go til day 18 see if any grow more or notDay 18 the egg should be all dark..Dont be too quick to pitch them. You would be suprised at how much some can take and how often ppl think one is dead they open it to see a moving baby

That isnt a blood pool its probably babies .It can look just even and dark at day6 like yours do.
This reminds me of pregnancy. It was 10% joy and 90% horrendous stress. I would be worried up until an OB appointment, feel great for a couple of days then start getting stressed and worried waiting for the next appointment.
With eggs, it feels almost the same. Such highs and lows with this. Remind me, this is supposed to be fun right?I can see all of us, fretting over these eggs, wringing our hands and pulling out hair one minute and jumping for joy the next.![]()

tomorrow is hatch day for me. I am not feeling good anymore... I feel like I upped the humidity too high the first 2 days of lock down and too low during the first 18 days. Fingers crossed I get a few chicks. I have a broody who needs babies and she is going to sit on plastic eggs until she is a momma...
