HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Tell me about it. I am in the process of building a new chicken tractor now and between the temperatures and humidity here in FL I am dieing!!!
What we do for the chickens....the NEW tractor coop....I had so many misquitoes biting me yesterday morning and too hot for long pants dripping wet like you Brookhaven.. i cut the wood outside and brought it in my dining room to screw together!! House is the pits now anyway as my small pony sized dog Sophie is shedding all over..EEEEUUUU. HATE THAT!!!

OHOH didnt think...hope i can get this out the doorway!!!

I agree. 60 is for lock down. The first hatch I did I ran my humidity in the high 40's and then lock down in the high 60's. Was too much for the humidity here as most of the chicks that hatched were very wet. I try to keep my humidity in the upper 30's- lower 40's with 30's being the norm during days 1-18. I don't add water unless it drops into the 20's and then only enough to bring it back up to high 30's. Last hatch I tried low 60's for lock down and that was still too much so I am going with 55-60 max this time around. The humidity in my house runs in the low 50's even with the AC running so I know there is enough moisture in the air. Still trying to find what works for me here in Florida.
Thanks you guys for the info. on the humidity. I guess that is the part that has me worried the most, trying to maintain it at all times at about the same. Before when I would see it get to about 42 I freaked and added more water and a couple of times it actually overflowed out the vent holes on the bottom. It is good to hear others opinions/experiences and I guess trial and error will teach me what works best for me.

and Yes, Roxanne, thanks to reading the post in these forums I realized that I didn't need to freak so bad about the blood rings.

Now I need to give some TLC to one of the first hatch, Blue Langshan. It was so small (small egg) when it hatch and now after a week & a half the poor little thing does not appear to be growing. I do see it eat & drink (some) but I think it may be getting weaker everyday.

Have you tried to give it poly visol vitamins with out iron? a drop a day they say.I put it in very wet softened food and hand fed mine.
Ppl on here say it works. One guy is 2 weks oldanddoingfine just a rally bad leg.
Also had another that was a weakling the first 2 days also tried to give him as much as i could in watery food for 2 days then he seemed to be a litle more awake put him in with the others and today 2 days later he is tiny but zipping around like a jumping jack and eating his little head off

The little one didn't make it, died in my hands late this afternoon, after pretty much holding it all day

- it seemed okay for the first week, other than being a real runt, but the last couple of days I could tell it was getting weaker. All I had here was pedialite, mixed some food with it but it really didn't want to eat.

It is so sad when we lose one. The very first chick I hatched died in my hands too when she was 5 days old.

Hey everyone!

I set up my project Orps on the 1st! May I join you?

I've got 4 gold laced and 4 chocolate [supposed to be full sized chocolates]

Hoping I get a good hatch of these babies as my 2nd batch of English Orps were due today and not so much as a rocking egg from them yet. I want to say that this will be my last hatch, but we all know that would be a lie!

So I just finished my last hatch ..I was the last one on the other thread..so I guessI am the first on this one ha ha ha ha to hatch that is...

I don;t know if some of yall remember I had 3 last eggs ...I started and ended in the genesis and guess what!!! 2 out of 3 hatched..that is the best hatch rate for me so far!! i love my new bator..

i promised my hubby he would not have to go back to the PO for any more boxes of eggs... well, now my mom is sending me some eggs... Does that count?

any how, I have eggs in the bator that I had set on the 25th..I put 4 under my broody and the rest I will hatch for her. These are eggs I got from DMRippy... super blue layers.... cross from leghorn/EE or Ameruacana ( i think)

well it is nice to be on another thread... I again see many familiar hatch buddies...
