HERE WE GO AGAIN Anyone SETTING Aug 30th - Sept 8th join me!!

Hey everyone!

I set up my project Orps on the 1st! May I join you?

I've got 4 gold laced and 4 chocolate [supposed to be full sized chocolates]

Hoping I get a good hatch of these babies as my 2nd batch of English Orps were due today and not so much as a rocking egg from them yet. I want to say that this will be my last hatch, but we all know that would be a lie!
LOL. I said that my last hatch was going to be it and I set 10 on the 1st (we are hatch buddies for sure) and another 25 this morning.

So I just finished my last hatch ..I was the last one on the other thread..so I guessI am the first on this one ha ha ha ha to hatch that is... I don;t know if some of yall remember I had 3 last eggs ...I started and ended in the genesis and guess what!!! 2 out of 3 hatched..that is the best hatch rate for me so far!! i love my new bator.. i promised my hubby he would not have to go back to the PO for any more boxes of eggs... well, now my mom is sending me some eggs... Does that count? any how, I have eggs in the bator that I had set on the 25th..I put 4 under my broody and the rest I will hatch for her. These are eggs I got from DMRippy... super blue layers.... cross from leghorn/EE or Ameruacana ( i think) well it is nice to be on another thread... I again see many familiar hatch buddies...
We all surely need to join Hatchaholics Anonymous.

My eggs were hand delivered this morning. The gentleman works for the Dept. of Agriculture and was in my area today and dropped them off. He and his wife have over 20 years of hatching experience and answered so many of my questions. I now have a totally new outlook on hatching here in FL. I had originally wanted to get 6 Maran and 6 silkie eggs and ended up calling back and asking for 12 of each. I would like about 5-6 of each breed and in my head I was thinking 6 eggs = 6 chicks...LOL... so I went with 12. To my surprise she also included 1 Wellsummer egg. Nice big brown egg. I looked up the breed and if this one hatches I may get a few more. I really like the qualities of this breed.

My eggs did not show up again even though the post office website said they should be here today. They are blessed where ever they are! I imagine I will get them in the morning.

Stupid English Orp eggs.

Still nothing. CD21 today starting at 3pm and still not a noise or rock from them [I think one of them is smelly though!]

I sure wish chicks hatched faster! 21 days is a heck of a long time to sit around watching them!

I just set 11 light Sussex eggs in my brinsea eco20 bator. This is my second hatch. I'm still struggling with temps, as I can't seem to find a reliable thermometer and I don't trust the one in the bator 100%. My last hatch, I got 9 out of over 20, so not great (all shipped eggs). Hoping for a better hatch rate this time!

I talked to his wife on the phone. She is the one that really deals with the chickens. She uses a Brinsea Octagon 20 (Manual turn.) She adds no water what so ever during 1-18 and then maybe a few Tablespoons at lock down. She is the second person to tell me that is how to do it in Florida. With all the humidity in the air there is no need to add more water to the bator. Just a little during lock down to help the first chicks from shrink wrapping and with them hatching the humidity they produce will keep the next pips from shrink wrapping. I am still scared to do it this way but am giving it a shot this time around.

I went onto ebay and bought 10 scientific thermometers for $20. I use them for hatching and my homemade soaps and just love them. The only drawback is that they are in Celcius but after using them I find it much easier to read than Fahrenheit thermometers. I have calibrated them all and every one of them was dead on.
