yes its very frustrating , i put chickie back in the big brooder and seems to be ok . food gone down over night and there is only 2 week olds so it must be eating . keeping a close eye on him / her . got one that has piped over night and i cant see the beak ? membrain is very white and dry should i help ?? chick is cheeping all the time , what do you think brook ?

I would actually wait until the last possible moment to assist if you are going to. Just make sure that if the membrane is drying like that it doesn't cover the nostrils. The few times that I have helped a chick with the white membrane I actually took the egg out, held it in a warm, wet wash cloth and painted water onto the membrane and into any place it had pulled away from the shell and then put it back in. If no progress was made within a few hours I would start breaking off little sections of the egg, wetting the membrane and putting it back in the bator. When they finally did hatch it seemed that they had literally just finished absorbing the yolk and the umbilical had just fallen off. Remember you can always clean a sticky chick just make sure that it can breathe.

The bleeding is what I was referring to above. Like they barely finished absorbing the yolk before they came out. That's why I wait until the last possible moment.

i decided to leave it be as i could just see the nostrils and i went out and came back to a hatched chick still attached to the egg via umbilical cord and it still had a bit of blood in the egg and on the tissue under the chick . it has now riggled free of the shell stopped bleeding and is drying nicely , very sleepy from its hatch but i hear cheaps every now and again

Just wanted to check in and give a quick update!

My 2 quarantined chicks are doing much better today! They've eaten 2 bowls of food in the past 3 hours and they're dumping their water bowl again!

2 days ago, they were too weak to eat or stand up and now they're eating as fast as I can fill the bowl. I think they will be moving back to the coop with the others tomorrow and ill continue the sulmet for another 4 days.

I'm so thankful that they are doing better!!!

ive about had enough , i had 5 eggs on day 22 yesterday did water and candle test and was fine . got up this morning to no pips or chicks so i did water test etc and no movement at all . opened them up and took all yolk in and all membrain was dry and srink wraped ???? what has happened

the only chick that hatched still hasnt stood up its sitting on its bum and going around in circles , i have put the rubber band on the egs and stood chick up but as soon as i put back in brooder the chick ends up on its back wavingits legs in the air and falling a sleep ??? dont know what to do , its one after another i lost 2 chicks last week that were week olds and its heart breaking

If they were shrink wrapped, it is most likely a humidity issue. I won't open my incubator after I lock down because a fall in humidity (by opening the incubator, etc) can cause the membrane to dry out and shrink around the chick making it impossible for them to get out :(

Sorry you had to go through that.
