Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Marty, the egg looks great! Hope it hatches healthy and extra bonus if it is a buff. Keep us updated!!

Erin, don't blame your son for wanting to keep them all. I am rather attached to all 10 goslings I have and I have more babies on the way.

Marty congrats on the hatching process! You will have a gosling playing egg soccer before you know it.

Erin congrats on a second buff. Careful keeping too many of the off spring and continuing to allow them to run together and breed. Too much inbreeding will bring on issues. Plus in season gander fights are nothing to sneeze at. Darn boys cause some major damage when they start fighting.

So I didn't cool goose eggs this weekend because most were ahead on weight loss. Opened the cabinet yesterday to cool and found 3 Sebastopols looking at me. they were eggs that had been set on in the nest that we broke the Brodie's off of. As of last week they looked to be hatching this week, not over the weekend. So they hatched while the racks were turning, the humidity was 23% and all three are very strong and moving out to the brooder house today.

Oh and we put more goslings in the mail yesterday. :D we have a waiting list now for the remaining goslings and will be shipping as many as possible before these temps go too high for the summer.

I have 16 new babies plus 4 older goslings we are growing out to select from in fall. An adult or two we used this year may get sold if the goslings grow into good confirmation and feather. Will be hard choices for sure.

Oh and have two additional buff dewlaps coming for hubbies flock. We still have a couple of eggs going for them as well. He is planning their "special" pool and house already. They are the calmest goslings I have ever seen, and just enjoy hanging out in their yard during the day. Iain thank you for encouraging us to add them to the property, they really are a perfect fit here and oh so perfect a goose for hubby.

Marty sorry family are being butt heads, and no one is offering to help. Thinking of you often as you try and get through this week.

Celtic, Congrats on the sebbies hatching!! Glad to hear you love the dewlaps. They are so sweet and sensitive! Can't wait for my greys to hatch. They are starting to creep into their air cells this morning. Should go into lockdown this evening.

Here's an ironic tidbit for you. Of my 4-pack of 2nd set of goslings, my little african is the the sweetest one in the group! While he is not as confident or quiet as my three toulouse, he is the most bonded to me and likes to be picked up and cuddled. Go figure!

UPDATE: As of this morning we have ANOTHER BUFF!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to get them out of the barn pen, and into the world, but too small yet for flying critters not to kidnap. They do like their daily strolls with moms and dads in the evenings. They are so cute!!!

They are just precious!!!!!

Iain, to this day (even during breeding season) I can pick up both the Adrican goose and gander tuck them each under an arm and carry them to where I want them to be. No bites, or issues once I pick the, up. He will posture before being picked up, but it ends when I touch him. He will however try to nip my hubby every chance he gets during season. they can be ok to be around, as long as you realize their personality. These two are very smart too, I can yell their names and tell them bed time and in they come from the pasture. They will walk to the house and go in waiting to be closed up. Another bonus they don't fly and I do like my birds nonflying. :D

I have a question.......Since this is my first time with a gosling. She has really bonded with me. She loves to be held and likes to sleep on my shoulder in my hair. Is it normal for them to nip on you? I can be talking to her and she nips all over my face. She loves to nip at my necklace and my ears. Just wanted to make sure this is normal. I don't want her doing that stuff when she gets older!

Shellie,

It was wonderful speaking to you yesterday. Sorry I had to bail, but my husband was at the bank and needed some payroll information so he could write checks for our employees (he forgot their pay stubs at home). Oh course he got there only moments before they closed the lobby (our service truck doesn't fit through the drive-thru), so I couldn't make him wait.

Anyway, I am anxiously tracking the Pomeranian goslings you sent my way. I am getting both my brooders ready since I also have turkeys hatching today. My Pomeranian eggs are due on Friday, so I need the turkeys out of the hatcher by tonight, so I can clean/disinfect it and set the first 6 goose eggs (from Kawonu) in there by tomorrow.

Funny story about my husband and incubator. My goose has begun laying sporadically again. So, I have been putting her eggs in the incubator along with the 6 from Kawonu, since I lost two of my original goslings. Last night, after I had been doing this for the past 28 days my husband finally decides to look in the incubator. I had just gotten into the tub and heard him yell from the kitchen, "Why are there 11 goose eggs in the incubator?" Then immediate laughter from my son, daughter, and future daughter-in-law who were in the living room.

He immediately shows up in the bathroom and then came the usual discussion about selective breeding and the need for enough stock to choose from available, how rare this breed of geese is, and how we had agreed to a preservation flock. He just shook his head and muttered something about having to build another house: Poor guy.
