Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

One of the sebs that was turned on his back when I got home has passed away. He seemed very weak when I turned him over. He was doing well this morning. Dang it, I don't suppose I can take the day off from work to keep geese upright, now can I? The other weak one could go either way, and one is very well, and walk better than the toulouse. They have totally different squeeks.

Marty make a cone/cup from Arnold towel, rag, paper towels what ever to sit the gosling in. Every 20/30 min offer it tepid water (1cup)with 1 drop of poly visol and 1 tsp sugar mixed into it. Dropper or qtip to offer fluids is best. The poly visol is a key part as it offers vitemins to them that are sometimes desperately needed when weak from an assisted hatch. Try and avoid mixing salt into their water, sugar gives carbs and energy in combination with the poly visol (no iron version).

We have saved many a hatchling with this. Is, have told it to many others who have saved hatchlings. It does work, I know you have warned people polyvosol is for humans, but it is a well used item as are many other human made items for animals. Vet wrap was first a human medical wrap know as koban.

Papertowles rolled and taped to form a circle will hold goose eggs properly and allow ease of hand turning without bumping, rubbing and or falling. They also make great pads in empty space when eggs are on their sides and the bator rocks in an auto turner.
I keep rounds of foam available as spacers in the cabinet racks as needed, but the paper towels work the same when a buffer is needed or an angle is require.

Cool thanks for the idea!

I do not disagee with you. My respected biology mentor at ESU is pretty much against it, because of the concentration of vitamins, and the tendancy for people to overuse it. As I've also said, diluted is a different matter. I just have to go drive to the drugstore, and I'm about to, believe me.

Poly visol aka infant vitamins w/o iron. OK, I'll give it a whirl. I have faith in you too, Celtic. And besides, she doesn't raise waterfowl.

Ohhh no....

im sorry

Marty, I have had a few miracles using polyvisol (without iron)!! Hope it works as well for you too!!

RE the air cells, Iain's misting and 30 min cooling suggestion helped a LOT with my loss percentages. We'll see soon if I got it down enough (and in time), but my percentages did change to come much closer to the goal loss. If you're at about day 25, I was at roughly the same. Best of luck with your Sebs!

Thanks BullCreek. I'm going to leave them out longer tonight.

Well.... it is officially day 28 for my cayuga... and 49 hours since I internally pipped for him. Darn thing is taking its sweet time absorbing veins/yolk sack, just happy to hang inside his cradle of a shell. Meanwhile, toulouse baby is working hard to internally pip. At this rate, the toulouse may hatch before the cayuga.

Marty I knew you had said an educator you respected didn't like it, and respect their thoughts on it too. However I know a lot of book smart people with little practical application knowledge. Hope you find success with it like we have.

QJ, the longer cooling should show improvements for you. I have to do longer and more often cooling just to stay on track because of the humidity here. Are these eggs from Lisa?

He's just waiting till he's all finished cookin' lol.

How can you tell if it's working hard towards internally pipping?
