Okay.. this may sound weird ...even I thought it was going to be really weird when I was doing it.. but it turned out edible! DH ..the picky brat... even liked it ..and he's sick with no appetite
I generously buttered a silicone cake pan (9 or maybe 10") ..lined it with very thin slices of Bosc pear. Simmered 1/2 c. of water with a cup of granulated sugar (I used organic cane sugar ..not the white stuff ..and still got good results), until it turned amber. Added 1/2 c. or so of broken pecans ..swirled it a bit ..and removed it from the heat for a couple minutes. Drizzled the pecan/sugar mixture over the layer of pears ...poured in a full prepared mix of "box cake" ...German Chocolate flavor (the weird part) ..and baked everything until the center was done ..at 350F. (Times will vary ..my oven is on the tweak ...so, go for at least 35 minutes ..and expect more, maybe).
Let it stand for 5 minutes or so, and then invert it onto a cake stand or plate, etc. ...and wait another 5 minutes or so ....then cut into it and serve it warm with a hot beverage!
I think I will experiment with Nutmeg or Mace next time, but just a wee little sprinkle on the pears... for some spice.
Does the tired and weary, gooooood...
