Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Okay.. this may sound weird ...even I thought it was going to be really weird when I was doing it.. but it turned out edible! DH ..the picky brat... even liked it ..and he's sick with no appetite

I generously buttered a silicone cake pan (9 or maybe 10") ..lined it with very thin slices of Bosc pear. Simmered 1/2 c. of water with a cup of granulated sugar (I used organic cane sugar ..not the white stuff ..and still got good results), until it turned amber. Added 1/2 c. or so of broken pecans ..swirled it a bit ..and removed it from the heat for a couple minutes. Drizzled the pecan/sugar mixture over the layer of pears ...poured in a full prepared mix of "box cake" ...German Chocolate flavor (the weird part) ..and baked everything until the center was done ..at 350F. (Times will vary ..my oven is on the tweak ...so, go for at least 35 minutes ..and expect more, maybe).

Let it stand for 5 minutes or so, and then invert it onto a cake stand or plate, etc. ...and wait another 5 minutes or so ....then cut into it and serve it warm with a hot beverage!

I think I will experiment with Nutmeg or Mace next time, but just a wee little sprinkle on the pears... for some spice.

Does the tired and weary, gooooood...

Steak sounds really good, right about now ...I'll have to put T-bones on the grocery list for this week

BB - Chicago dogs, yummm! And what a thoughtful DH you have.

Refeathers - what a shame that such a great sounding dinner left you with a headache.

Was there any hidden msg?

Aneesa - sorry you guys are not feeling well. That cake sounds like the perfect "cure"!

Pears and chocolate are a great match. I often bake pears and serve drizzled with chocolate sauce for dessert.

It was good to take the day off here. Sometimes I forget I'm not as young as I feel.

Nope, no MSG. I'm just prone to headaches if I eat too many carbs or something too salty. I'm drinking lots of water now and feel better.

That is really interesting, Redfeathers. I hope the water cures it all

I've noticed that I get a headache the next day, if I have any kind of " 'ose" (lactose/milk, sucrose, fructose, glucose, any of the 'oses) within a couple hours of bedtime... and my docs swear that I am not diabetic.

It's on at the same time the new House episode is on...but after three seconds of considering what to watch, the Westminster show won. I have friends showing their Irish Setters and some English Cockers. Can't wait to see the results!!

Very windy here yesterday! Quit fence repair at 2 pm and broiled a couple of fat ribeyes. Baked potatoes with cottage cheese and, yes, more asparagus.

This sping, I'll start gardening in New Mexico for the first time. I doubt things will grow as they did in San Francisco... Farewell to months and months of spinach and snow peas.

I'm hoping, however, for good tomatoes and peppers - even chilis - and I'll be trying melons for the first time.

I wish I liked eggplant more than I do. Other than japanese eggplant with garlic sauce, I don't really know how to make eggplan palatable. Any suggestions will be very welcome.

Tonight pot roast with carrots and potatoes and brocoli on the side. Sadly, my rabbits ate the rest of the cabbage. Sadly for me, that is. They seemed to enjoy it

Good afternoon everyone! Last night we picked DS up from the train in the next town over. DH took us out for supper.

Tonight he is BBQing some Venison sausages that his buddy made. I am baking homemade steak rolls to serve them on. Also I will make a salad. I have some greek olives from my MIL and of course there will be hard boiled eggs in it, not sure what else yet!

Does anyone have an easy/quick or just plain good Ceaser salad dressing recipe? Years ago I worked in a cafeteria and the "salad lady" made one that had raw eggs in it.

I hope everyone is feeling great today!!!
