Hey guys! I've read this website off and on for several years but didn't have a need to join since I didn't have any poultry. Now we're out in the country, starting our homestead, and have a flock of 18 runner ducks and 4 pekins, a brooder full of peeping freedom rangers broilers, and a pen of mixed chickens and guinea hens. I say mixed chickens because they're not full grown yet but fully feathered but I'm not sure of any breeds/sexes yet. Got them on discount for $1 at the local farm store.
Current plan is having the ducks for eggs (right now they're laying 13-17 eggs a day), have the broilers for meat (obviously), and the remaining chickens/guineas for tick control. I really only got the chickens to raise with the guineas to encourage them to stick around, so we'll see how that goes. For other animals, we have a lab/pitbull puppy named Maisy, 3 indoor cats and 2 barn cats, and a milking mini cow and her calf. Oh, and four kids 😂
