My local feed store gets it chicks from Hoover's, so that's where many of mine originate. Curious why Hoover's should be avoided.

I have one of Hoover's Midnight Majesty Marans, and Eleanor lays a lovely deep, deep brown egg. In fact, she's started up laying in the past week or so -- just laid one this morning -- and without supplemental light.
