hoover hatchery

Hoovers is a hatchery to avoid if possible.

I've ordered layers and meat birds from them for several years. They get shipped to my (semi) local farm store and I pick them up. Have only lost one chick, and it was a cornish cross. They have all been healthy.

Hello, and welcome to the BYC community.

I have bought chicks from Hoovers, and have had good luck with them. A good majority of the negative complaints you see from hatcheries are those who had chicks shipped across the country and expected no mortality.

I've had many backyard chicks from Hoover's and they have been good birds. I have not had Marans, but I am happy with the pullets I have purchased there. I'm sorry I cannot help you with the egg color you are asking about.

Oh also I have a few cuckoo marans pullets from Hoovers that should start laying this spring. So I can’t speak to how dark their eggs are. My current darkest egg layer is a Golden Sexlink. Haha. She lays chocolate with a little rust colored eggs. I like the Cuckoos.

Sorry I can't offer any advice. But, people fixate on the color of eggs - I have never read that the color of eggs makes any difference on taste.
