Horses I HATE THE 4th!

My horses pay no attention to thunder but firecrackers are a different story. This year my husband (usually he's my DH but not tonight) did not wait until I had my horses ready before he started setting the fireworks off. We threw a "late 4th" party and I was going to turn my horses into the big pasture so they could get some space between them and the "noise" but he started setting the boomers off before I could get the horses thru the gate. When I finally stopped screaming at him my throat hurt. No fireworks for us this year. Bet he thinks twice next year before he starts setting them off.

Having had a fire start within 5 feet of my barn from neighbors using illegal fireworks when I was a teen. I can honestly say that I am not a fan of fireworks.
This was the first year I didnt worry about the horse. The chickens though. Wow. I had to close the windows the smoke was so heavy(low cloud cover so they lowered the height) And the cities display is about a mile from the house.

Kid slept through it though since they started later than scheduled (thunderstorms)
I have to admit it though. Some criminals out there are getting smart. Two guys were shot, one killed. During the fireworks. Havent caught the shooter.

our horses could care less about fireworks,if you desensitize them to such things they usually wont care..we can fire a shotgun off most of ours, anything over 3 years old we do this with..its a good idea to desensitize them as you never know what you are going to come across on the trail..just last week we had a wild turkey hen jump out from nearly under my horse, about 3 feet away and my husband was on his 3 year old about 15 feet behind me and neither horse did more then raise their heads..and the hen had poults so she came running back after my dog..it was kind of funny, she was really ticked off.
