This has puzzled me for 10 months…Literally.

In fall 2020, my hens molted. However, one of my hens didn’t grow any feathers back on her neck and shoulder area. I saw some lice and treated with DE and Manna Pro Lice Spray.

She never grew those feathers back!!!

Then another hen had the exact same problem….Now, a few months later, two more hens have the same problem!!! Making 5 hens who have this WEIRD ISSUE

I’ve asked this question before, but only one person answered and they said that the feathers would grow back….That was over a month or two ago!!!!
I recently treated them with Ivermectin (a month ago) due to worms and lice at a fellow BYC member’s advice. I have been spraying them with Manna Pro Lice Spray every day for over a month now.

Btw I cleaned the dirty bum in the picture below

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?

I am just concerned that I am not doing enough for my hens….Is there something else I could do? Or, have I done everything I can, and I should just wait to see what happens when all my hens molt??

I appreciate any advice and help. I just don’t want my girls to pass away🥺

They molted last year, September 2020 through January 2021

Now, one of my afflicted hens, I believe, is starting to molt, since she has lost more feathers near her bum. I am finding some feathers on the ground and such….

Is this vent gleet?

I wouldn't be able to tell if it is vent gleet as there are certain symptoms that you would be able to see and smell. Vent gleet has a yeasty smell and usually there is a white mess coming out of the vent.
It sounds like they haven't molted since you have treated them for lice and pests. So, most likely their feathers will come back with their upcoming molt.
How many chickens and how big of a coop do you have? Did you treat the coop when you treated the hens?

What did you end up treating your hens with? I saw the one post where you asked for help and the person who responded is very knowledgeable - did you ever treat your hens with anything other than DE and poultry protector? Neither of these will take care of an active infestation.

They should grow those feathers back when all of them molt again. Do they still have lice? Are they pecking each other? What are the dimensions of your coop and run/area to roam?

I used injectable ivermectin (the only ivermectin that I could get my hands on)

I cleaned my coop out with water and such, dusted my coop with DE and then sprayed poultry protector.

I clean my henhouse out every morning, and spray the poultry protector and/or DE

I still have to do a follow up treatment of the ivermectin

One of my hens looks to be molting since it is September and as more vent and tail feathers have been lost, and found around where they roam.

Yes I discovered some lice and treated with ivermectin injectable. That was 2-3 weeks ago. I will do the second dose when the ivermectin comes in. Sadly it hasn’t been avaliabl

No my hens don’t peck each other

I am hoping the molt will help, like you said

they roam an acre and have a large henhouse with lots of roosting bars
