I went back to school at 42, and had a professor not much older than I. We were both kind of cut-ups and one day in class she asked what my middle initial stood for, and I told her, and then she put the two names together "Pammy June" and it sort of stuck. I changed the spelling to make it easier for an e-mail. She even used it when she handed me my diploma at graduation! My class cracked up! Up to this point, I had never let anyone call me "Pammy" except for a well-loved uncle - it sounded OK from him - but now I don't mind it. She was greatly amused and pleased the first time I e-mailed her with that name.
