How Did You Discover BYC?

Ask.com search engine, "How to raise chickens."

after about 5 seconds of looking I had to join, now this is where I spend all my time!!!! They should start adding a warning on the search engines: "Clicking on this link may lead to chronic addiction and late nights." LOL!!! Love the site, and everyone here!!!!

I found BYC by doing a Google search in Feb. 07. I joined in April of that year and y'all have been stuck with me ever since!

There is a website www.davesgarden.com. There are forums there as well . I found the poultry forums there one day. While reading the posts one member linked a photo to a thread here on the bucket nest boxes. I clicked the link to see the photos and I was hooked! I thought I had died and gone to chicken heaven.

When I was little, my sisters and I got some ducks for Easter (yeah, I know, but I grew up on a dairy farm with a pond) and I found out that I like birds.

When DH and I moved onto some acreage, we talked about what livestock we wanted. Some, like the horses and beef cows, will have to wait until we can afford the barn and fence. But chickens we figured we could get right away with minimal expense.

yeah, right!

Anyway, we found backyardchickens through Google, and y'all have been very helpful.

I recently acquired (rescued?) my first chickens - bantam hen & rooster, and another large rooster (haven't looked to see what breed yet) who thinks the little bantam guy is a hen. They'd been raised in a cage on a table in someone's greenhouse, and never had been let outside. Their toe nails had grown super-long and were curving back into their feet, so I googled to determine how to clip their nails when I found the site. It is terrific! They are out scratching for their first time today, and boy are they happy!!
