The wattles are starting to pink up. Bad sign?
Yeah, bad sign. I always watch the comb the bigger and redder says roo but the chick's stance says pullet. Roos typically stand tall while pullets stand lower.

Here is a good example of what I'm talking about in regards to stance, you notice how big the legs are in the front chick too...that's definitely a roo.
Wing sexing is something that can only be done in the very first few days (like day 1-3 max) by the time they fledged you can't do it anymore, and not all breeds can be wing sexed accurately.Hey there all! I've never heard of using wings before to sex, but thought I'd go take a look. I have no idea, though-- anyone have a guess? One is a chocolate cuckoo, the other is a blue, and they're both about three weeks old. The cuckoo is slightly older (by a few days).
THANK YOUthe video was very cruel. Don't watch it if you are an animal lover. I could not watch to the end
we just got a Jubilee Orpington chick, hoping for a hen. Its comb is very light and am looking now to see if it's split. We're calling her she for now..Oh boy! Here they come with the "sure-fire" ways to sex your babies! I like the one the most that said to put a remote control and a cell phone in with the babies.Girls will go for the phone..... you get the rest!On a more serious note, not sure how soon you need to determine the sex, but between 3-4 weeks (I have 12 buff orpingtons - 11 pullets, 1 rooster), my rooster's comb definitely started getting a darker red and split. That's when we decided to rename "Missy" to "Ernie"!It was a good call.Ernie is now 8 weeks old and definitely my only buff rooster. I don't know any way to sex the chicks earlier - I'm too much of a newbie myself! Good luck and enjoy your babies!
