Today I got five eggs from 10 hens. I think 2 are done laying completely. I have to find a thread on what age hens stop laying!
Healthy chickens can lay for 10 years. Each year they just lay fewer. Their autumn molt and the subsequent winter break gets longer every year.
For those with infrequent or non layers amidst active layers, it's best to feed something other than layer and give oyster shell on the side for those laying.
I got 16 from 22 yesterday because I forgot to collect at the end of the day before. I have a couple pullets that are just starting and 2 older hens that lay infrequently.
I also have 20 young birds that should start up in May. All the older birds will be laying again by then so the eggs will be rolling in.
