How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Finally got my 1st egg yesterday from one of my 8 big girls!! So excited for more to start laying!

I'll have to remember these tricks if it becomes too hot for the girls. It's not been as bad here in the Blue Ridge Mtns (2000 feet, or so) as it's been for some others, so they've been fine staying in the shade of the Cypress trees. But, that doesn't mean it can't get that hot.

I also freeze fruit & veggie scraps and throw those out for them. I have a wading pool that I keep fresh water in for them, but I have never seen any of them walk in it. Another trick is too water down a patch of dirt to make mud. I do this in a high traffic area so they have to walk through it. Last trick, I spray the top/ roof of the coop down as well as the leaves of the trees they like to hang out under. The evaporation is suppose to lower the temp a little.
Today wasn't as bad, they were panting but didn't have their wings held out away from their bodies.

5 Chicken egg's today

2 egg's from the control group

3 egg's from the free range chickens

The hen that was sick yesterday did not wakeup this morning

Temp 111 F degrees and cloudy all day humidity 41.2 % ya it was muggy and just nasty

The egg's I put in the incubator Monday had vanes growing in several egg's ,, I needed to mark the air sack as I failed to do so Monday

2. I have a second layer now. My Easter eggers should be next. I'm thinking a few more weeks before I get those though
