How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

7 eggs on Thursday. Left Thursday night for a LONG (10 hours) drive to Bowling Green, Ohio for a college tour with my daughter on Friday morning. Drove back on Saturday. Hubby had not collected eggs. There were an even dozen when I collected Saturday night, so I'm calling it 6 & 6.

The control group is separated from the roosters of other breeds so the girls are by them selves in the barn safely locked up with fans to move the air around feed is available all day and water and now the timer keeps the light on 15 hours a day and yes they get sun light during the day time so they seem to produce eggs more regularly then the free range chickens and the eggs are not being taken by the crows but the best part is the hens are available for breeding and there is little worry of inter breeding from Molten Hondas and the EE's to the RO's or RIR's ............

Two chicks hatched today both EE's .... Soon I hope to be working on the Marans for breeding

Thanks for clearing that up. So basically, the controlled group is controlled due to specific breeding, no necessarily an experiment. However, as a side note, you are able to track if the controlled group laying more than the free rangers that are not given additional lighting. Cool!

I have been getting 6-8 a day. The last 2 days I've gotten just 4. I wonder if the shorter days are slowing production. Four is really more than we need so I'm not too worried about getting fewer.

2 eggs in coop, 1 dead pullet, 1 rotten egg laying in rain water and .... Surprise surprise surprise...... 2 soaking wet, mud covered day old chicks in a secret nest under a wood overhang... With new roosters and more storms on the way my surprise babies are now safe, dry and inside my hastily rebuilt brooder from this spring lol...
