How many of you have your chicks in your house?

We have our chicks inside the house too!

Chicks in the house? That's ridiculous...I have ducklings.

Chicks are hatching out as we speak, so today, it'll be both.

I do! I have a tote in our entryway with 6 chicks in it right now. The oldest one is about 2 weeks old and the youngest ones are not quite a week old. I like having them in the house at this age to be able to tend to them better.

I have 11 four week olds in the house right now. I am going to have to figure out a way to get them in a larger brooder in the garage soon since I have more eggs in the bator due to hatch in two weeks. When the eggs hatch those chicks will stay inside until they get bigger and then will move out to either the garage or the barn. Right now it is still too cold at night here for them to go to the barn. I am hoping that by the time the chicks that hatch in two weeks are big enough to go out of the house they can go to the barn. I like having them in the house but I do have to admit that the dust and dander is starting to get old since I have had chicks in the house off and on since New Years.

I was given an amazing stainless steel brooder. Place for the heat lamp. The thing I like about it is that I can have it in the house, even with my cat....no way can she get that door open.

Lockdown tonight and we will be placing the brooder next to the table with the incubator on it. It is like 2x3 and is on legs. The chicks will stay in the house a few days until I am sure everyone is in good shape then they will be moved on to the big brooder in the garage.

DH is out of town and I am getting leads on fencing everywhere.....will be plenty of fence for him to build the new runs when he gets home! And as a gift I am buying him enough chainlink to surround his garden to keep the deer out! (after he builds the new runs)

heres the brooders at the moment

1- kitchen- 14 silkies 2 weeks
2-bathroom-5 marans-8 call ducks-4 days old
3-bathroom-2 marans 1 ee-2 call ducks 5 weeks( just about ready for out side a few more days and they will be out)
4-bathroom-6 button quail 8 days old
5- living room-6 siklies 3 marans- 2 days old

my nieces come to visit and play with babys then then they go home and ask my sister (mom) why they dont have ducks in the bathtub? my nieces thinks its normal and fun. they are 5-8 yrs old.
but my family think i'm not normal because i got chickens in the house.

Yep!! Plastic bin with 4 chicks in it(3 are 6 days old and one is 3 days old). I have 3 more chicks due this weekend, 3 more due in a week and a batch of eggs coming today Chicks chicks chicks LOL
And BTW, they are in my laundry room!!!

I also take the girls out of the brooder several times a day. We hang out in the kitchen for treats and explore time. I have a roll of toilet paper at hand for their poo. I spray Lysol on the floor once they are back in the brooder. I wouldn't have it any other way. My mother says I'm weird for keeping chickens in the house. My mother does not like chickens for a pet, therefore her opinion doesn't matter.

We and our animals have this little agreement. They won't live in our house and we won't live in their barn. It works for us.

Yep I am a crazy chicken owner like everyone else. My chicks were in the house for roughly 3wks, then we move them to a nice shed. Where they are happy as clams now.
