How much nutridrench is too much for Little Lou?

Ok, so I’ve been tube feeding Little Lou since Friday...he doesn’t eat or drink on his own. Al he does in sleep. I have him on penicillin now, just for two days. I’m hoping he can get over this infection, get him to eat and then find the real issue. I am willing to cut into what som had thought was a Bumblefoot, once he’s a bit stronger.
My question is this. We watched out 12 yr old elglish bulldog go this summer. Her organs slowed and she passed soo slow. But we weren’t giving up...just in case. There was nothing a vet could do, she was just an old dog and her time had come...but it killed us all the same. I’ve been watching him go downhill since thanksgiving and he hates the th pubs feeding...I’m sure his throat is raw. So, I would love to corptinue until the antibiotics are done and see a big difference in him. Otherwise I feel like I’m making things worse. I don’t ever want this little Lou go...but it’s not about me...it’s what’s in his interest...do you think I should continue all therapies. Until the meds have run it course and then wait a few weeks..they decide?

It's hard to say without being there, and being around him. Trust your gut, and I'm sure you'll make the right decision. :hugs:hugs
Thanks...it’s, soooo hard. He just sleeps. It’s still the joint that is hot and swollen, not any part of the foot. I’m just praying once the antibiotics kick in he will eat, gain strength, etc. we built him a little cart so his leg isn’t being laid on, but I’m afraid to leave him in it, because, as he is, I’d pretty much need to secure his whole body to the cart...and I’m scared he would actually get energy to move and injure himself. One more question, care a duck drown if he falls asleep with his beak tipped in his water bowl? I have the water right at his head...since he can’t move. A lot of the time he flops his beak into the water. It’s not hig enough to cover nostrils typically..but he’s never put the whole weight of his head inside.
I did have him in a larger cage with four waters and four feed bowls..so wherever he flopped it was there. Now he seems so cold and I have him in a Rubbermaid tub...because I read how to make it for a warming chamber. Anyway... I still have the feed at the other side of his head, just in case. So, I could take that out and decrease water in two bowls so, if his total head weight brings water level up over nostrils..??

I’m sorry to be throwing so much out there.

only one last tidbit...I did see the parrot formula on the Petsmart website for only $17 for 5 lbs...but..it would mean lying to my husband...and I have never done that. I can’t betray his trust.

in the spring I took 5 rabbits to the vet and had surgery on one..who is still under the dr’s care...so the bills wracked up fast. This is why he has put his foot down about where we have draw a line about spending on, frail animals. Unfortunately he views Little Lou a little bit different...but, he makes the rules, as we have an old school relationship and we like it that way.

ok enough..thanks everyone... for always supporting Little Lou!

Yes, unfortunately ducks can drown. :( Sounds like things are not good, but you are doing a great job with his care. Poor little lou may just be a case of failure to thrive.

What does @Miss Lydia think?

You don't have to buy that huge 5lb baby bird food I bought mine on Amazon. and I believe it's just a lb. I keep it in the freezer. Are you giving him pen injections? Or meds by mouth? Can you post a really good pic of his leg? Honestly if you feel he has a fighting chance then go ahead and continue to tube feed him. If he has infection all through his little body I think he may just pass on no matter what you do. It's so hard to tell someone going through this what is best to do when we aren't there. That's where like @DiYMama540 says go by gut feeling. I've had to do that a few times. Not easy. :hugs

I’ll get pictures..he doesn’t move much. I’ve had it wrapped for swelling. I’m giving the injections. I didn’t see, or don’t think I saw the food on amazon..but I did figure it’d be better to buy a big bag, as I will probably have a sick chicken at some point. Is it the stuff for baby parrots? Also, that doesn’t fix the issue of lying to Chris. I have never done that. I would hate to fight over medicine...because..it might cause future more issue with regular necessities for animals. Tough tough calls.

Since these ducks are your responsibility maybe if you explain it to him that way he'd be willing to let you buy it. If you keep it air tight in the freezer it will keep. And your right at some point you may need to use it on another.

Yep. That’s the food I thought. Well I have positive news!!! Little Lou had his head up high when I went out. And he made solid poop for the first time in a week!! He even quacked when I messed with him!! Yeah!! I put him back in the tub to get a wet rag. Never thinking he’d be poopy and he ate some crumbles. Going to get kitty food today!! Here are pictures. I took side view of the sore so you could see it is not swollen. The leg swelling is down but probably from wrap. Still hot. But not foot
