How old was your hen when she laid her 1st egg?

Breed of hen- 3 EE

Age in weeks when she laid- 16

Color of egg- green

Size of egg- Size is better measured in weight, one laid jumbo 70gram eggs for her first few months, the others laid maybe medium sized 40-50gram eggs
(measuring diameter both ways with a sewing measuring tape would be great, or putting it next to a ruler for length, but identify the method used, please!)

Breed of hen- 50% welsummer x penedesnca and maran

Age in weeks when she laid- 32weeks, these guys are slooooooow to mature but well worth it when they finally do

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- I have 5 that started around the 8month or 32week mark

Color of egg- very dark brown with speckles

Size of egg- large to jumbo, 50+ grams
(measuring diameter both ways with a sewing measuring tape would be great, or putting it next to a ruler for length, but identify the method used, please!)

Breed of hen- japanese bantam

Age in weeks when she laid- 20

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- I've had 8 japanese bantam pullets so far that all started between 18-22weeks

Color of egg- white, pink, light brown and every shade in between

Size of egg- tiny, maybe 30 grams
(measuring diameter both ways with a sewing measuring tape would be great, or putting it next to a ruler for length, but identify the method used, please!)

Breed of hen-bantam EE

Age in weeks when she laid-18weeks

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- 2 started laying about the same time and 1 suffered an injury and has yet to lay

Color of egg- blue

Size of egg- small, 30-40grams
(measuring diameter both ways with a sewing measuring tape would be great, or putting it next to a ruler for length, but identify the method used, please!)

16 weeks

Buff comet (golden comet)

Other buffs started in and was up to 4 eggs a day by 17th week, still all buffs then.

18th week RIR and Black Aussies chimed in and 19th week Barred Rocks started.

Now 23 weeks and getting a dozen or more a day from all 4 breeds. (Seems they do not know it is wintertime and that they are supposed to slow down !)

She is well behind her sisters who have been laying for weeks now but it's a beauty and such a pleasure to see all 4 colored eggs in the nest today!

I have Four EE's & two wyandottes: first one to lay was SLW at 21.5 wks - last one to lay EE at 32wks.

Breed of hen- EE

Age in weeks when she laid- 25 weeks

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- within a week or two of each other (the first three) ~ I still have one yet to lay at 29 weeks

Color of egg- sage green

Size of egg- about a medium (eyeballing it) ~ they are now large (but if you go by weight, it did seem quite a bit heavier to lift)

Breed of hen- Barnevelder

Age in weeks when she laid- 31 weeks

If you have more than one of that breed, did they all start laying around the same time?- only one of 4 so far

Color of egg- dark brown with speckles

Size of egg- large (eyeballing it)

Here is a pic of two EE eggs, the BV egg and a white large from the store.

Look at that Barnevelder egg, it's GORGEOUS!!! Did you Modge Podge it or is it normally that shiny?

No modge podge! I just washed it because it had some blood on it. (I do feel sorry for those first eggs... does it hurt??) But it was completely dry for the picture. And it got eaten for lunch.

Breed of hen- Golden Buff (Meyers hatchery)

Age in weeks when she laid- between 17-18 weeks old - I got my hens in a swap with a friend and I'm not sure of the exact hatch date but they said they got them around the first of August.

Color of egg- very light brown

Size of egg- I'd say it was a small - but MUCH MUCH bigger than the quail eggs I'm used to!

This was our first chicken egg and Lucy laid it on Saturday morning sometime.

Now I'm waiting for my two Barred Rocks (Thelma & Louise) and the Jersey Giant (Ethel) to lay their first eggs. Lucy started doing the squat thing the week before Thanksgiving. I was afraid she was going to lay her first egg when I was away visiting family so I had DH give me a couple reports a day but she waited til I was home. She was squatting again yesterday a bunch so maybe today will be egg #2!
