How old was your hen when she laid her 1st egg?

It's a great thread though.

I notice that you have a question mark beside the buttercups on egg size. My three may not be representative, but two lay medium eggs, and one lays a pointy egg that is every bit as big as my Barred Rocks--2.5 oz! I also have to say that my buttercups are some of the most regular layers. It's two days on, one day off, pretty much like clockwork.

I reported my other hens when they started to lay and, finally, have the last one to report. She laid her first today. Must have had an Ephiphany about freezer camp!

Pertinent info:
Speckled Sussex
36 1/2 weeks
My other SS started laying about 12 weeks ago.
Egg color is light brown
roughly 4x5cm as measured by a ruler (1 1/2 x 1 3/8 for the metrically challenged)

So I figured I would mention that I have a freeloading black star at nearly 24 weeks old and has not delivered an egg yet.

I will update with the correct format when she finally gives one up.

So we got our first egg today

I think the Black Australorp layed it (she's been doing the egg squat for a week)
She is 23 weeks and 2 days old
It was 1.45 ounces
Light brown
2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide with a circumference of 4 3/4 inches
We have 6 chickens but she is the only BA

I think it's neat that it is lighter on one end and darker on the other

Black Copper Marans 27 weeks.

Olive Eggers (Blue Ameraucana roo/Wheaten Penedesenca) 27 weeks.

Other eggs are a hatchery EE and a hatchery Wyandotte.

BA laid the very first egg at 21 weeks. I'm still waiting for my other five pullets to lay their first. They're all the same age. The egg on the right is store bought for size comparison.

6 Black cross to Gold Sexlink ----3 at 30 weeks and 3 still waiting
9 Speckled Sussex (1st generation off of hatchery stock)----31 weeks and still waiting

Ok update:

Pullets are 26 weeks old as of yesterday (Monday), and within the last week, from the pullets I have had:

2 Buff Orpingtons laying a small light brown egg
1 Plymouth White Rock laying a small brown egg
2 Black Australorps laying a small tan egg

All are small still.... so all my brown layers save Oprah started laying at 25 weeks. She had to be different and start at 23.

The 2 EE pullets have not laid as of yet, same age.

Just to update, all chickens are laying now (20 wks), their eggs are light to dark brown, and they lay REALLY BIG double yolkers at least once every second day per chicken. Every other egg is regular sized single, and the eggs are piling up in the fridge
