How to get husband in gear to build coop

You want the chickens, you build the coop. He'll most likely help or take over, but consider the weight of the imposition you put on him by expecting him to undertake this building project for you.

Good luck! I waited and waited and ended up building it myself. The good news is that I found out that I could actually do it!

I had the same problem, so I started making my own coop and my husband decided it wasn't good enough and gave me the shed (Yay!!!! I'm a better interior decorated).

If you had hired someone to do it, payment on completion, and they didn't show up what would you do? I'd start it myself. Then, if others wanted to help, they could.

I, too, sometimes have trouble getting started. I try to anticipate and solve all the problems beforehand, which of course is impossible. It's like a computer locking up. Once I realize this, it's time to hit the reboot. Key words are "once I realize this."

Heah, my youngest stepdaughter married a fellow from Pa that can't even change oil in a car. He doesn't know how it goes in or where it comes out. My stepdaughter does all the work. Not all men are capable of doing the "man" things. But she likes it so I guess it works for her. But girls, remember one thing. When a lot women started burning bra's and demanding they be treated "as equals" with your rights and such, a lot of men just said ok, go ahead. So a lot of the attitude of todays men can be attributed to the libers putting them it their state of mind. That's how gloria steinum(sp) wanted it and so many other women wanted it too. Anything a man can do a woman can do better? Really?

Then there's the old antiques like me that just didn't pay any attention to all the mess and still open the door for the wife, and other women for that matter. But some of the women tell me, don't do that, thank you, I'm quite capable. So I just say, have at it. But some of the problem could be the husband is overwhelmed from work, the economy, feeling there's just not enough time in the day. Who know's. He'll probably eventually come through.

Still like some on here have said, there have been some very nice coops built by females. Why not one more?

My hubby is willing to help / build it but is too distracted by the rest of the home and business work. I mentioned the project to a couple girl friends want to help so I'm planning a "Hen Party" for the spring - construction, power tools, beer and food. Does it get any better?

Our chickens were in the house. When dh wanted them out bad enough, he worked on the coop. But I started it and did most of the work myself.

I waited for my husband to build a coop too, never happened, so I brought home 3 chicks and said, I sure hope they have a place of their own when they grow up so they don't have to stay in the house...next day he was out building the coop.
