how sad. I really hate when they are so eager to get a deer that they take a shot, not sure if it will be fatal. I hate hearing the 'bragging' stories of how far they had to track the deer, but "we got him!" yes, after he suffered for how long?

Thats my biggest beef with this dude...he apparently can't wait for a kill shot he shoots before he thinks

I do not hunt, but I am not against it unless it is for sport.
Have you talked to your in-laws about this guy? Let them know about the 2 that got away? Is it possible they don't know what an idiot this guy really is? If not, I would start off a generalized conversation about hunting & find a way to work the experience in that you had with this guy. Or maybe you should just video him doing the same thing this year...I think it would make for a very informative hunting video!

I have hunted for 27 years now. I love the entire experience. The solitude, the fair chase and the healthy bounty on the table. As I could talk all day about hunting I'm not sure this is a good subject for such a diverse audience. Some of the comments here have mentioned alcohol and disregard for trespass laws and total ignorance to a true hunters responsibility to be fair and ethical in the kill. The problem with a post like this is it feeds the anti-hunting community with a view of hunters in a negative way. Yes these scenarios do happen. But they are not the way the majority of hunters act. Please be open minded and realize this is not the way the majority of hunters act. Sorry to bust in like this but I felt my 2 cents would be well spent on this post.

They know about the 2 deer last time. MIL was the one to ask me to go help him look for them. We followed the blood on the first one but it just stopped. The 2nd one there was a little blood but he wasn't sure where it ran off. I just really don't like when people do that. My sister and dad where hunting with some family friends this year and apparently one guy shot a buck and they were tracking it but couldn't find it. My sister said that there was actually chunks of lung or something in the splashes of blood they followed but couldnt find the deer. How hard is it to just make a kill shot? That and another rant I could go on is the hunters that shoot the yearlings. Some of the ones I've seen taken are seriously like the size of my lab. I bet I would get more meat of my lab!

I used to work in an emergency room near an area that had a lot of deer hunting. BY FAR the worst and most dreaded shifts were opening day of hunting season. I'm sure there were plenty of responsible hunters out there, but there were always others, too. There was at least one death every year. Always hated to think of what the jerks did to the deer.

i know how you feel. the property i hunt on now was previously owned by people who killed everything! even yearlings does button bucks anything and all the time too. since me and my dad bought it we have been restoring the deer population and it is coming along pretty good. i have been seeing deer recently and i killed my 2 early this season for meat now i am just going to watch or hunting for the big buck.

some people dont have enough common sense to be hunting....hope he gets discouraged.....nice to here about women hunting...most women are to worried bout looking pretty all the time...i love outdoor women...
