I Am mostly Latvian (my grandfather came off a ship during the war) and the food he used to make BUT on the same hand he grew up in a very large family and didn't have much, they even made head cheese but he did teach my mom some stuff and mushrooming

My grandfather used to sing to me in Latvian
When his dementia got really bad he stopped speaking English and reverted to Latvian, luckily we are still close with family over there
